Hi there, I need a little help.... well, big one it seems. My Kenmore side by side refrigerator, model number 106.53632300, all of the sudden stop cooling. Everything in my freezer melted. I have removed everything and unplugged it for about a day and plugged it back in. Nothing. I can hear something running but not quite sure what it is. I can feel a light coolness comes out from the vent in the freezer and even lighter coolness flow coming out from the vent in the refrigerator side. Please help!!! Thank you
We had a similar problem - it was the compressor start device. Ordered a new one from repairclinic.com, and it works great now. The old start device rattled when we shook it. We opened it up and found lots of burnt little bits. Check to see if your compressor kicks on & off a lot. Ours would run only about 10-15 seconds, then go off for a minute or two - then back on for a few seconds. If that is happening, it could be the start device. Hope this helps.
You will have to let it run for a while, then take the interior back cover off the freezer side to look at the frost pattern on the coils. There should be a nice even white frost on them all, if there is a solid block of ice the defrost cycle isn't working and if there is not much frost but a few inches then you likely have a sealed system leak (no more refrigerant). There can be other issues like the compressor start device not working or the temp control failed, etc. so we will have to go back and forth to do more troubleshooting. Repost with more info when you have it.

i followed your suggestion of taking the interior back panel of to check for frost on the coils - my coils in the freezer had no frost whatsoever, and my freezer is not cooling effectively. if there is no frost on the coils, you suggested it might be a refrigerant problem... how can i fix this? thanks!
Replacing the relay worked great for me and like you said my old relay was a rattling.
