These machines are not designed for normal Users to fix. You will probably need to take it to an expert. Be sure to tell them if you have files on it that you do not want to lose. If it will cost more than a new machine, just ask them to save your important files to CDs or DVDs and give them to you so you can copy them to another machine.
your acronis backup may not have included the system restore files. in other words your OS(windows). if this is the case you should have restored your pc(hard-drive) with your Windows OS system disk, then transferred the backup with the adapter. if the backup does not included system operating files(windows) there will be no boot.usually in backing up system it will give options, or it will ask you to have gateway send you system disks or tell you to create an image of it so you will have a copy of your hard drive when you first got it. then backups are done of ONLY the files added to the hard drive post first getting it. All system files and programs are on the system disks. these days manufacturers don't include system disks with pcs so you have to ask them be sent($15) to you or you download an image of them. in case you need to restore your pc in the future.
Buy a new hard disk drive! Use the 2 golden Gateway, Applications, Drivers, & Operating System disc, also known as Restoration DVD to reinstall your Gateway programs & operating system. After that, reinstall your backups.
How much disk space do you need? Why buy a 320 GB HDD if you only use 4 GB? So, keep the bytes down if you don't need them and that will keep the costs down, too!
The Gateway support discs can be had at: www.Gateway.com/Support .
I'm sorry to have to tell you this but it sounds like your hard drive has gone bad. If you bought this as a factory refurbished unit you can go to gateway.com for help with a replacement hard drive, I can't promise how much help you'll get.
Otherwise, you can buy a replacement hard drive from one of several online computer parts sellers. The problem is that you'll have to replace the operating system unless you have a recovery disk. If you don't have a recovery disk be sure to order an OS at the same time or you'll end up buying the more expensive retail version. Estimated cost of doing it yourself $175-$300 depending on OS and hard drive choices.
If your not knowledgeable enough in computers to change the hard drive and install the OS yourself then take it to a friend that is, taking it to a repair shop will most likely cost you more than it's worth.
I hope this is helpful.
