I use a Fuji E900 digital camera and have been getting pictures which are too white when I am sure that I took them in good light outdoor conditions (often in bright sunlight,sometimes under bright although grey skies). Moreover, I often get pictures with many lines across them, as if the photo was taken from behind a Venetian blind! I would also like to know the difference between Programmed Auto and Auto. I am under the impression that Auto is the mode that sets aperture and speed automatically. The handbook says about Programmed Auto (I quote): This is an automatic mode to specify the settings except for the shutter speed and aperture setting. My question: If the Programmed Auto does not set speed and aperture, then what does it do?! And how does this mode differ from Auto then? The mind boggles, particularly in the case of a 68-year-old baffled by modern technology! That's me and I am here expressing my gratitude to anyone who will care to help me.
Try this to isolate the problem.
Switch on the camera in auto and put it into full optical zoom. Now turn the camera to face you and angle it so that you can see into the lens without reflection. On full zoom the internal lens will be right up to the outer lens. Now press the button to take a picture. You should be able to see the shutter cover the inside lens and then open again. Did it completely cover the lens? It should do. If not then you will get an over exposed picture or a picture with lines across it.

6 weeks after emailing them about this problem with my E900 camera Fuji finally emailed me back to suggest I send the camera in for repair along with the proof of purchase (the camera is now out of warranty). I have decided to give up with Fuji (the repair would cost around £100) and am sorely tempted by the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 as it has a wide-angle lens. I wouldn't have minded so much if Fuji had got back to me quicker but 6 weeks seems pretty poor to me.
Sooo many people are having this same issue of white lines across the screen...Is there a recall?? PLease let me know asap. [email protected]
The camera is overexposing; that's why the pictures are washed out or have lines across them as if they were taken from behind a Venetian blind.
Solution: if the camera is still covered by guarantee, Fuji will exchange it free of charge. If not, you'll have to pay for having the shutter replaced by a new one. This does not come cheap.
We have the same problem with white bands oe lines across the image taken with a Fuji E900. Calling Fugi seems to be the only option other than paying to have it fixed
Wow, me too, 3 weeks after warranty expired LINES ACROSS my photo's. The Movie mode works fine. What UP with the LINES? Very upsetting...
Im have the SAME EXACT problem with my E900. It appeared suddenly after one year of use (just a few weeks after the warranty expired). And after searching the net, it seems many have had the same problem with this and model E550. It's not you. It's the camera. It has nothing to do with the settings or the modes. My next step is to contact Fuji over the phone and see what they suggest. Good luck with it.

I am having the same problem with white lines appearing across my photos. It started a week after my warranty expired. For the amount of money paid for this camera I would have never expected this. My cheap digital I bought years ago stll works. Anybody find any solutions?
Yes, I have the same problem and it started about two weeks ago. It doesn't seem to matter what the setting is, flash or not, and the batteries are new. There are lines going across every picture taken. The picture looks fine when displayed immediately after being taken. The lines are there when I display and scroll through the pictures. The lines are there when I view the xd card on my computer. I will erase the xd card to see if that resolves the issue or some image recording issue.
All of my pictures have white lines (looks as if pix were taken thru a venetian blind.) I have replaced the batteries, replaced the picture card. My camera has never been exposed to extreme heat, cold nor moisture.
Same problem, occurred whilst on hols in France. Blue skies appear white, any light coloured buildings appear too white, some (not all) of the images have lines across them. Bit miffed as I've loved using this camera up till now. Warranty ran out a few months ago, trade in with Fuji doesn't really give me an adequate solution. The only camera that appealed to me was the FinePix F50fd, reviews of which are less than brilliant. Having said that £90 seems quite a lot for repair. Any ideas? My photos are invariably of landscapes (mountains, lakes etc) and not people so if anyone has any suggestions I would be most grateful, Thanks!
This started happening to my pictures too about two months ago. Unfortunately it will overexpose or make the lines one photo and then not the next second photo and then lines again on the third photo. It is progressively making photos with lines more and more often. The photo looks fine when I view it right after taking it. However, when I scroll through the pictures later it has the lines and continues to have the lines. It also seems to overexpose the photos, most especially outside. I've tried new batteries, changing settings, inside, outside, outdoor temps, indoor temps, there is no rhyme or reason to the occurence of the defective photos. I have owned the camera almost two years. I'm very disappointed. Christmas violin recital today and out of 10 photos only two turned out good. The rest had lines. VERY Aggravating!
