I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.Viewsonic won't power up - 6_17_2012_2_14_45_pm.jpg6_17_2012_2_15_03_pm.jpg

thank you for your response. The tv/cable works so i am able to view cable television. The DVD logo comes on the screen and icon shows the disk trying to load then says error and ejects the disk. I would not open the back to look as i wouldn't have an idea how to replace the hardware. I am now wondering at the cost of repairing the disk player or just using an old first generation dvd player. thanks for your timely response to this issue. I much appreciate it!

Won't stay on

Power supply or whatever controls the set--main board.

Power supply should be carefully checked including looking at the filter caps on it.

My viewsonic vx1940w monitor won't turn on. There's no lights or anything. The outlet it's plugged into is working because I tried another device in the same outlet. My settings didn't...

I had two ViewSonic's that did the same thing right around 2 year as well. They worked really well for me and then just died.
I found out the first one had a faulty power cord, and the second one just wouldn't turn on at all.
I think there's a good chance that your monitor bit the big one just based on my experience with the brand. I would recommend taking it in to your local computer repair shop and let them take a look at it. If it is 2 years old then it is probably out of the manufacturer's warranty unfortunately. I hope this helps answer your question :(
Thanks for using FixYa.

VX922 monitor, blank screen, blinking power light

If there is a flashing led on front of the monitor, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1 The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occurr suddenly are a blown capacitor on power board, the inverter board powering up backlight lamp has blown, or a fault on main lcd controller board.
check also the video cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Check connectors, try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact Viewsonic to find out a Viewsonic service point.
