How do I hook up my TR140 headphones to a TV. The TV has no special audio equipment.. just a DirectTV DVR.

What are the available ports that you have at the back of your DTV DVR? and ports available to this DVD/VCR?

Ok.. first.. the simple thing is to go into your television menu and turn the television speaker OFF.
Then exit the menu and turn the volume up.. try your headphones now.
Next.. check the back of the TV for a FIXED AUDIO OUT.. plut your headphones into these outputs.. if you have these.. you can simply turn the set down.. and use the volume control on the headphones.

It sounds as if you are plugging the base into a standard headphone jack located on the Television set.
RCA Headphone jacks (incl mini) automatically stop the sound output to the main speakers on almost every set I have seen.. or home stereo.. etc etc
In other words you can take a standard RCA jack.. with nothing connected to it.. plug it in while the music or sound is coming out the main speaker.. and it will cut off the output to those speakers..
If you set has audio outputs on the back.. preferably Fixed Audio Out .. you will need to connect your base unit to those.. turn your set volume to 0 and adjust the headset volume using the control on the right ear-cup.
If you have variable audio out.. you will need to go into your TV sets setup menu.. turn off the speaker.. and turn up the set until you achieve a signal and decent volume through the headset.
If you are missing these connections.. your current “work around” is your only solution.
Best of luck

Hi Suzanne, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you.
If you step back and look at this problem, there are two to three things that immediately come to mind: 1) have you hooked your headphone input to an output of another device like an amplifier or tv or ...? 2) Are you certain that the headphones are charged and the power to the base station is good 3) pairing the headphones to the base may be an issue.
Please clarify some things and anything else you can think of. Chad

Testimonial: "I hooked the device to the headphone output of a sony bravia K TV (and switched from headphone to audio output)...I also tried to hook the device to the RCA out put on my cable box (DVR)...there is absolutely no sound. The base station is plugged in and the device (not headphones just the thing that hangs around the neck) and for some reason plugging the device into the TV headphone jack has cause the TV to lose the cable signal"
