Hi, I installed a Sony xplod 1000 watt amp, and two Pioneer TS-300R 600 watt 12" subs into my son's car a few months ago. it sounded great for about two months and then it started shutting off when he turned it up, and steadily got worse before totally quitting. we removed the amp and sent it back to Sony repair, and they sent us another amp. I installed it today, and it still does not work. the red LED light is on, and there is power from the battery to the amp. the sterio head unit has a seperate "on off" selection for the subs, and it is switched to "on". any ideas as to what could cause this? I think there is a seperate "hot" that powers up the amp when the head unit is turned on, but don't know if it's a full 12 volts, and was wondering if I can put a jumper wire to see if it works. one more thing, I bypassed the amp and checked the speakers. they do work.
Almost all after market amps use 12v at very very low amperage to trigger the amp on. A temporary jumper from the battery plus terminal on the amp AFTER the battery and ground wires are attached should cause the amp to turn on. I would check to see if you have attached your speaker load correctly ESPECIALLY if you are bridging. Most of the blown amps that come into my shop are due to incorrect bridging loads from the speakers. Note that a 4ohm load bridged across both outputs of an amp will deliver a 2ohm load to each of the channels. When you parallel wire two 4ohm speakers together and then attached them to a bridged amp you will be putting a 1 (one) ohm load to each channel of the amp. Please don't make this mistake. It will fry your amp in about a month. Hope this helps. Good luck.
I have a sony xplode 1000 w amp that shuts off after a few seconds with or w/o the factory radio being turned on any suggestions?
