I am getting a good decode beep, however I get the three-beep error in communication beep as well. I know this means the scanner is not properly configured. I printed the manual off the manufacturer website, but do not know which codes to scan. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What barcode scanner do you have? USB, SERIAL or ps2.
by the way. the old computer is it like NCR, SIEMENS or IBM because then you need to re-program your scanner.
i found a manual where you can set your pc type with barcode scanner. be careful not to scan reset defaults. because you will loose your settings.
look at chapter 4-9 and 4-10

If you don't know ask me. we don't want to lose al the settings.
good luck

There is more than one way for that imager to send data to the computer. Are you using USB, serial, or is there a little box that goes between your existing keyboard and the PC that accepts the scanner connector?

Does it beep each time you pull the trigger while the beem is on the barcode?

you need to use the code book (the programmers book) to configure the reader, you need to tell it how to communicate with the PC (bit rate, stop bits etc....)
this code book should have come with the reader...
this book has barcodes on many pages and also configures the types of barcodes that the scanner can read....
if you do not have the code book you can download it from the maufacturers website
SOURCE: 4 beep error when scanning barcode
The four beep error is a communications error. Usually it indicates the scanne is not configured properly. If the scanner is connecting with the CBA-K01-S07PAR cable and you are using a PS/2 keyboard you should have scanned the IBM PC/AT barcode from Adobe page 56 of 342 of the LS2208 Product Reference Guide.
If you do not have a PS/2 keyboard attached and are using a USB to PS/2 adapter you should scan the IBM AT Notebook from that same page. If the scanner does not start working immediately you may have to reboot your system. If the scanner still does not work the CBA-U01-S07ZAR USB cable might be a better choice.
If you are not connecting with either of these cables and are still getting the four beep error a call to the Motorola support center may be in order. Their phone number is 800-653-5350.
