That is a very bad sign, but before you unplug it pull the machine out from the wall and check to see if it feels hot back there as well. Then remove the lower cover and find the condersor fan motor. Its the only fan back there. I'd willing to bet that the fan is not running. The purpose of the the fan is draw air across the compressor and blow it through the condensor therefore lowering the temperature on both parts. When its not working/ running, the heat from the compressor and the condensor is pass onward to the machine and the machine then acts as a heat sink.
Also, if the machine is too close to the wall or the condensor coils are dirty you'll get the same effect, so be sure to check those things out as well

I would look for a new fan motor for sure, I've seen to many times where I;ve shown customers that a fan motor was bad, spun it with my hand and it take off then the customer not want to repair thinking that everything is ok and the company was just trying to rip them off, only to turn around a few weeks later saying the same problem was occurring, how they lost food and shouyld have listened, etc, etc.

SOURCE: Fridge not cold enough and build up of ice at back of fridge
We had the same problem and were told that gas was not circulating properly. We had it topped up, but it broke a week later. It had to be scrapped.

Check the seal is tight all around the door - clean it to within an inch of it's life.
Then make sure the drain hole (inside at the bottom of the fridge) isn't blocked (a long handled screwdriver with kitchen roll wrapped around it will suffice). You can tell the drain hole is blocked as it's characterised by the door being difficult to open in quick succession (plus - you can see it's blocked).
Next, defrost the fridge completely: Power off, open door on freezer compartment & fridge and mop up the damp. When totally dry, turn back on (without food - let it cool properly before putting food back).
I had the condensation problem and it's now sorted. Not sure which cause was responsible, but the 'solution' is worth a try.

I took the back off cleaned the area and gave the an a twist and it flew into action! Whole unit cooled down soon after. I then turned off the fridge and took out the motor, as I suspected it needs cleaning up and oiling. It's a sealed motor, so I'm not sure if I should shop around for a new motor online or if I can open it up, oil it and put it back. Any help is much appreciated
