Remove the card and battery. Clean the battery contacts inside camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. Be sure battery is charged. Press all buttons on camera. Insert card and then the battery. See if it works. If you can now get into the setup menu, you can do a reset from the menu.
If you are looking for drivers in that CD, click Panasonic Support and check drivers list of DMC-FX01 at bottom of page. and if you need Software CD, please contact nearest Panasonic service center.
Have you had problems when you turn it on and off from scratch before? It sounds like you have a problem with the lense extension. Now if you are lucky, it's just a bit of dirt in there and the best cure (I know, it sounds horrible) is to put the end of a shop-vac over the lense when it's closed and it will probably **** the obstruction out. If you are less lucky, the problem is with the gearing inside and in the middle of the luck-vs-effort range it could just have been bashed, in which case, you can try and push it back into alignment but be careful with it (he says, after he hit his last one with a large lump of wood to put it back).
performa a software reset via the menu's using the settings on the 'play' setting on the dial
if it doesnt help then

(044) 22352501 check this website for frequent issues with DMC FX01's http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/faq/fx01/answer.html#q1 My only direct suggestion is to take the battery out for a few minutes and then replace it. Failing that, try running the camera with charger without battery installed.
I had this exact problem. The FX01 thought I was holding down the 'up' button!
I sent it back under warranty and they replaced the board. However that doesn't mean it was unfixable; it's just cheaper for them to replace boards than test them and fix them. IMO.
