I just purchased a frigidaire front load used and when I purchased it I noticed a slight smell. I assumed the smell was caused by residue left in the rubber lip of the washer. I ran one empty load with a special detergent that completely rinses clean and leave no residue. I've been washing clothes all day since I ran an empty load and I have no smell and no residue is in the lip, everything rinses clean, even with a single wash. I haven't found this detergent in stores only online at www.dlee.qhealthbeauty.com. It's call SA8 with Bioquest Concentrated Detergent and it's approved specially for front load washers. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi there,

the musty smell is from the door boot or gasket. deposit from clothes and detergent get trapped in there and have nowhere else to go. i would recommend purchasing Washerfresh tables to get rid of the deposits. they are available all over.

I have an IQ touch front load washer. lately I have noticed a mildew smell coming from the clothes and drum after washing. i have followed the manual and completed the refresh and comlete cleaning...

Water can remain in ANY washer after the load is done. With a top-loading washer, it's easy to leave the lid up so that the water evaporates. With a front loader such as yours, however, the open door can take space in your laundry area, so we usually close the doors. I suggest that you take a dilute solution of chlorine bleach and water and put it on a disposable cloth and wipe down the inside of your washer as well as the areas around the door itself and the part of the washer that the door closes onto. Once you've done this, leave the door open until the smell dissipates OR overnight. If you will get into the habit of leaving the door open for a couple of hours after you're done with your laundry, you will probably solve the problem.
I really hope this helps. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my solution.

My washer has a mildow smell and my clothes smell musty, especially towels!

This is a comin in all front loaders. It it caused by two things not using HE soap and keeping the door closed when not using it. The only way to get rid of the smell is to run 3 to 5 cycles with bleach and no clothes or use a washer cleaner. Most large hardware stores carry them. Once the smell is gone be sure to leave the door open when you are not using it and wipe out the gray boot(gasket/seal) after using.

I have an LG washer that smells like rotten clothes. My clothes come out smelling real bad. I checked inside and noticed that the rubber seal around the door is holding moldy rotton gunk. It's not self...

Run a cup each of baking soda and vineger thru a hot wash. Might have to do this a couple of time if smell really bad.

Take out the unit where the liquid soap, softner, etc goes and clean by hand.

Soak a cloth in vinegar and clean the inside of the rubber around the tub.

And finally DO NOT LEAVE THE DOOR CLOSED IF NOT IN USE.

I have an older front loading washer Frigidaire and it's now smelling like mold on all our clothes thought it was me leaving clothes in to long but it's not. model #FWT445GES2 serial #XC74463636 . I have...

No recall, Pour 2 cups of bleach into the washer, Wash on HOT water, long cycle. Then wipe seal with dry cloth. This will eliminate the mold smell... To stop it from coming back ALL front load washer doors MUST be left open to allow the rubber seal to dry, Just like you close your shower curtain so it doesn't get musty smelling... 2 hours is about the dry time... wiping the seal with a cloth usually helps too... All located in your owners manual/

Clothes have a musty smell if left in the washer

Make shure to do a cleaning cycle. As well, wipe out the inside, the rubber gasket and the door when done washing for the day. We also have found that
leaving the door "Open" for several hours, when finnished, eliminates any future
smells.

Musty smell, but can't tell from where

I have the same problem with a 3 month old ge front loading washer.after 1 month it started off smelling musty..I thought it was my imagination, now at 3 months old our clothes smell so bad I think we might just have to buy new clothes! everytime I wash a load the clothes smell worse and now you can even smell it just walking into our closet 2 floors up. A new washing washing machine should NOT be doing this! so far leaving the door open in between washes has helped a little but I plan on tipping it back and finding the hidden filter today. Isn't it lovely that they don't mention a filter that needs monthly cleaning or it's location in the manuals?!
