I have a brand new Samsung LA40A550 and I am unable to use the control panel on the television to change channels or turn the tv on and off. The television work perfectly with the remote however the control panel does not light or change anything. Is there a trick to activating this or is this a manufacturing fault?

You may have to enable them within the menu as these type of TV's are often used in Hotels and Hospitals and what not. Disabling the buttons on the TV prevents customers from messing with the settings of the tv and allows the business to use whatever custom remote they prefer. Check the on screen menu and look carefully through the options, you should find it there.
SOURCE: remote not working!
Hi, I have just had same problem and rang Samsung who sorted it ! All that was required was to reset remote by taking out the batteries then press power for approx 10 seconds and then replace the batteries and hey presto it worked!
SOURCE: Sky remote wont control on/off , volume, or terrestrial channels
Press tv on the Sky remote
press and hold select and red until the led blinks twice
type in 0 0 6 0
press the power button, if the tv turns off then the press select and the remote should work all the tv functions.
If the tv does not turn off then press tv then the power button and keep doing this until the tv turns off, once it turns off press select and it should work.
If you have any problems let me know

This is the best solution for your problem as a 40 year experience with wires etc. Go to the source of your cable signal connector . Open it and clean the terminals with emery paper , sand the end of the cable shiny clean from corrosion , get a new barrel connectors with gold terminals if possible lengthen the ends of the cable , insert and tighten good, use thick rg-16 or rg 40 cable with good insulation ends crimped professionally with a crimpier or buy ready made , not from dollar store. Get a gold plated professional splitter if you need one or two , it will cost about 15 or more each . Make the cable runs as short as possible, using the thick good cables. If needed get a signal magnifier. From radio shack or the source etc. Connect them good and tight . Ground the splitters . Problem solved , you will get crystal clear channel 2 to 7 including 3 and 4 . Isolate the TV cable from other cables and power wires. Vitally
