After I type a capital letter and release the cap-lock key, the basket doesn't go all the way up. I have to pull it up manually.

Okay, so I found a parts list manual on manualsparadise.com for $11-- in case anyone else has the same problem.

If you have your old spools you can wrap ant 1/2 " ribbon on them if you don't they are difficult to find Gen. ribbon T30 or Nu Kote 53 should work.

Get some WD40 and spray it on thw segment (the place where the type bars are swung) then everywhere the key mechinism pivots.

i just picked up an olivetti lettera 22 at the local goodwill for $5. it has a ribbon but def. needs replacement. i was on a site that sells them in a 3-pack for $24.00. they fit all standard and portables by olivetti apparently. here it is:

Thje problem with this machine is that you need to use a fast pecking motion when typing. If you press and linger on the keys for too long this will cause an extra space.

After I type a capital letter, the basket holding the type bars doesn't rise all the way back to its original position. The result is that capital letters are way out of alignment with lowercase letters.
The basket still doesn't spring back to its full, original position after releasing the capital letters key. The typewriter was already well-oiled when I got it.
