Washer spin problem

Once the washer starts its cycle it agitates the clothes like it should but once it stops and then begins its first spin cycle the motor sounds like its trying to spin the drum but the drums not spinning. If you lift the lid momentarily and let it close the drum then spins and the water drains normally. The sound of the spin cycle changes when its draining and spinning too.It sounds like a belt is turning but just slipping on the drum pulley but with no smell of burning rubber. This problem occurs 3 or 4 times during the complete cycle. If you have any idea whats going on or how to fix it, it would be greatly appreciated

I have the exact same problem, including the same hot electric/rubber smell. The drum seems to turn when it's full of water, but once it starts draining and when it should spin, it's not. And it's not because it's overloaded or the clothes are all on one side.

I have the same problem. A "certified" repairman told me it was the timer. He changed it and I still have the problem. I know it's not the amount of clothes cause it happens whether I have 1 piece of laundry or 6. I'm trying to find a repair manual to do it myself but I can't seem to find one. Any other thoughts? I also have a problem with spinning in general. At the same load, the spin cyle is nice and strong at one point then extremely weak at another. When it's weak, it sounds like theres something loose, a light metal to metal sound. Any thoughts?

Ok so your having problems with the washer spin problem. Well there mightbe a sound that it is making like a jumpoing sound. Well when you here that open it and you might notice that all the clothes are on one side. That means that you put too much clothes in the washer, and it can't handle it. So open it and take out some clothes and restart it. I hope i helped you problem's. Thank you for taking your time to read my article.

My Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washer goes thru all cycles but will not spin, so clothes are wet. We replaced the motor coupler but will only spin without clothes. Once you put clothes in the tub does

sounds like direct drive gears are bad.. there is a slip coupling that goes over the shaft of the transmission adn assist turning the tub that could be worn or broken. you will have to remove the agitator and check the nut on top of the tub to see if it is tight or to remove the nut and check that coupling.

My washer is making a clicking sound when it is about to begin the high spin cycle to spin the water out of the clothes and is unable to begin the spin cycle on it's own. I have to manually move the knob...

If this is a belt drive unit it could be the belt or whats called a actuator also call a shifter. This componet switches the gearbox from agitate during wash to Spin to extract the water from the garments.

Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.

The washer is not spinning and clothes are extermely wet top load 3.5

Hi, Well try to set the washer on the regular cycle, large load and let it fill. After the washer fills to the selected level, the motor should start and the agitator should start agitating.
If you hear the motor running, but the agitator doesn't move at all, do the following:-
Stop the washer and set the timer on the spin cycle and let it run.
If the washer motor runs and the washer empties the water from the tank, but it won't spin, that is an indication that the motor coupler is not turning the transmission at all.
The motor coupler is made of two pieces of plastic called fingers and a hard rubber piece that goes in between the two fingers. One of the fingers is attached to the motor and the other finger is attached to the transmission. The had rubber round piece goes between the two fingers. When one of the plastic fingers breaks, the motor is no longer coupled to the transmission and the washer will not agitate or spin dry the clothes. The reason that the motor coupler breaks before it should, it is that the user overloads the washer. People stuff the washer with too much clothes, big comforters, small placer rugs, snickers, etc.
Another reason is that the washer is used every day; normally the washer is used 3 times a week. So if you have a washer that is 5 years old and you use it every day, it has the wear and tear of a washer that is 10 years old.
Replacing the motor coupler is not hard to do, once you see how the repair is done. You will save at least $100 by replacing the motor coupler yourself.

Thanks!

Frigidaire (LTF2940E) Washer starts, stops, starts, stops...

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
