Tray keeps opening and won't play dvd

My 2 year old always hit's the open close button to tell us to play a movie for him. Last time he did, he held the tray closed so it couldn't open and you could here what sounded like the gears skipping, no the dvd player won't play anything. The display comes up as no disk and keeps cycling through the tray trying to play something. Is there a reset button or something simple to try?

Purchased the DP300 at the Goodwill. The DVD has the remote control;however, I do not know how to use the remote control. I used the red, yellow, and white connector to my the DVD player and to the TV but...

with regard to using the remote control :

Make sure the batteries in the remote are working (they go in the back of the remote at the bottom).

Turn on the DVD player with the power button on the DP300 itself (lower left). Open the dvd tray either with the remote (press open/close button, upper right) or with the button on the DP300. Put a DVD in the tray and close it with the remote or the button on the DP300. The DVD should load.

Use the arrow buttons in the centre of the remote to select choices from the onscreen menu of the DVD. Press Play (centre of the 4 arrow buttons) to activate the choice you want. For example, if you want to play a movie, use the arrow buttons to go up or down until "play movie" is selected, then hit PLAY, and movie will play. If you want to choose a scene/chapter of the movie, use arrow buttons to go up or down until Scene Selection or Chapter is selected (highlighted), and press PLAY. This should bring up a list of the scenes or chapters. Use the arrow buttons to select the one you want, then hit PLAY, and that scene should play.

If the DVD tray is taking less than 20 seconds to operate, there is likely no problem. If it is taking more, there may be. I think the mechanism that opens and closes the tray is often the first thing to stop working on DVD and CD players.

I have a dvd from England and my old Sony DVP-C670D keeps giving me a prohibited message4 every time i try to play it. How do i unblock the region code.

Hi there,

Although no guarantee, this 'region hack' is rumoured to work:

1. Place the DVD player into 'standby' mode.

2. Using the Sony remote, press the following button sequence: Title; Clear; Power (green button); 0 (zero button)

3. Using the remote, Open the disc tray, then close again.

Now insert your disc and attempt to play - allow up to 2mins to load/play. If no response, open/close tray and try playing disc again.

Cheers,

My husband always operated the DVD player. He has died and now I'm at a loss what to do. I rented a DVD at the video store. I tried to put it into the tray on the DVD player. I had to pull the tray...

Hi, Very sorry for your loss. As always the first step is to make sure the player is connected to the wall outlet and turned on. To put a disk in the DVD you should push the "Eject" button to open and close the tray it looks like a home(a triangle over a dash) on the front side of the box down left corner of the tray. You have the same button on the remote marked "Eject". Push either once, put the disk with the shiny side down on the tray and push the Eject button again to feed the tray back into the player. Usually the disk starts automatically and you will see a menu on the TV with alternatives like "Play the movie", "Setup", "Scenes",... you may highlight the "Play the movie" alternative, using "Up", "Down", "Left" and "Right" and then press the "OK" button. Or just push the "Play" button either on the box or the remote control. If you click "Here "you can download the manual in PDF form. To open it in your pc you'll need "Adobe Acrobat Reader" (or any other PDF reader) installed.
I will gladly answer your questions Best Regards Bruce

Dvd player tray keeps opening and closing.

The tray position switch is disconnected or bent from disassembly. I expect one plug wire is off when you put the unit back. The tray switch is mounted so the tray strikes the switch when fully in and fully out.

My DVD tray will not open, and with no disc inside the display says 'reading' constantly. Any thoughts?

The DVD player in model DRC8295 uses a magnet to pull the Disc tray up into position. You can open up the front disc cover and push down slightly on the Disc tray and then push the open/close button to eject the tray. I had to do this on my unit and therefore I recommed leaving a Disc in it at all times. I leave a "Bad Disc" in mine and it opens/closes with no problems.

My JVC DR-M70 dvd recorder tray won't close.

Sorry for the delay in following up. My tray problem appears to be resolved, but I wanted to wait a few days to see if the problem returned.

After reading several suggestions on various sites for other makes and models, I started experimenting to see if any would work on my machine. I made several failed attempts before hitting on the right sequence of steps. To the best of my memory, THIS is what finally worked for me:

1) I gently pushed the tray back to it's closed position (note: the solution did not work during previous attempts when I left the tray open)
2) I unplugged the machine for 30 seconds,
3) holding down the remote's open/close button, I plugged the machine back in and immediately pressed the stop button on the player, holding both buttons down for 30 seconds.
4) I unplugged the player AGAIN for 30 seconds, then plugged it back in.

A MIRACLE! Upon hitting the open/close button on the remote, this time the tray opened exactly as it should, and it's been behaving itself ever since. I don't know if any of the steps I performed were unneccesary. All I can tell you is that every time I left out a step, it failed. The first time I followed every step, I had success.

As for my remote: I put in fresh batteries. The open/close button still occasionally tells the tray to open and close simultaneously. tvdokter has suggested cleaning it on the inside, but unfortunately, I only see one screw (inside the battery compartment.) I can't see how to get in without breaking it. Oh well, at least I'm back to be able to play and record my dvds.

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I hope this solution will be helpful to someone else down the line. If anyone has any questions or comments, feel free.

this suggestion made on this forum worked great for me.
I don't care if it does sound silly.. smack the unit smartly over the eject tray when you press the eject button.

Tray is not opening

To open the tray this is not a perfect fix, but it will allow to use it. After the unit is powered on: 1)Hit the "Open/Close" button 2)Wait a while (you will get the timing down with practice) 3)Tap gently, yet briskly with fingertips at area in the attached pic, that the red arrow points to I think the problem is that the tray becomes unbalanced somehow. Because when a DVD is in, the drive opens fine, only when there is no disc do you have to tap on the unit.
