No battery communications

Inherited a four year old Matrix 5000 with a control unit and 5 battery units. Panel reads "no battery communications" but the UPS appears to be functioning for at least short power outages. Do we need new batteries?

Hi,

You will get that message when the communications cable is not hooked up. It looks like a phone line and daisy chains from one battery to another and ends at the Matrix Control unit. If you have those installed and it still says no communication the system need service.

If you have a volt meter you can check the voltage from each battery at the plug. It should be 48 volts or more, usually on a fresh battery pack it will read 54.0+ volts.

Hope this helps,
Dean

Most wall mounted thermostats use a single AA Alkaline battery to power the thermostat. There should be a panel or door on the thermostat housing that slides open to change the battery.

I need to know what the modular cable is that goes between the main unit and the batteries on a Matrix 5000. Is it simply a cross-over mini-RJ11 (handset connector) cable?

ccowl, APC has a great website. Have you tried it yet? The knowledge base they have on their products is huge. The cable you are speaking of may just be for monitoring battery voltage status, but that is only a guess. The interconnect cable could be a proprietary APC cable and only APC knows how it is wired "end to end" !!! 12fixlouie

No battery communition display on lcd

Make sure that the battery communication cable is connected the the battery output communication of your smartcell. If Im not wrong maybe you connect the communication cable on the input of the smartcell communication board.

05 Altima, car will not go when the accelerator is pressed

Have you had the battery and alternator checked yet? If not, you should. It may be that the control units connected to the CAN aren't being supplied the correct voltage(too low) to operate properly.

CAN COMMUNICATION
System Description
CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial communication line for real time application. It is an on-vehicle multiplex communication line with high data communication speed and excellent error detection ability. Many electronic control units are equipped onto a vehicle, and each control unit shares information and links with other control units during operation (not independent). In CAN communication, control units are connected with 2 communication lines (CAN H line, CAN L line) allowing a high rate of information transmission with less wiring.
Each control unit transmits/receives data but selectively reads required data only.
