Solution 1 from Ernest, I am not sure if you are addressing both of my problems or just the ice maker not working.

  • Anonymous Jul 10, 2012

    Hi Ernest-
Thanks for your help. However, I will try to explain the water filter/dispenser problem.
I have been living in the house with this refrigerator for 3 years. All was fine, about a year ago I put in a new filter, after about 3 months when I used the water dispenser I started hearing the strange clicking sound from the Refrig. It seems to be from somewhere inside the back of the Ref. near the filter mechanism (not the filter itself).
A few people suggested I change the filter which I did and the problem is still there.
Then I started having the problem with the Ice Maker.
So, currently the ice maker is just not working (I can feel a layer of solidice in the ice maker)

I hit comment before I finished above. Ice maker not working. Water dispenser works without filter, once I put the filter in, It starts making the noise and water stops coming out. (I have used two filters in over a year. What do you think?

The gear that drives the mechanism that moves the ice out and allows fresh water to come in is damaged. In some cases the ice tray needs to come out so the ice cubes in the system can be removed by letting them actually turn back to water. Once you have cleaned it of old ice, try it again. Most likely a waste of time though.
What I have done to save money is find an old refrigerator someone wants to toss and pull the ice maker out. Chances are they have the same plug and wiring. Better if you just go get a new ice maker unit from where they sell parts for your refrigerator. It is easy to remove. usually about three screws or so. about two on top and one or more on the bottom side.

It seem s I have made an error in my post. At least I will admit it. I was only thinking the ice maker was clicking not the filter. I still am not seeing the problem. The filter when installed makes a clicking noise? This is weird, cause as far as I know, I never heard a filter click? The very first thing I would check is to see if the filter is really correct. If it is then go get another one. Just because it is new does not mean there is nothing wrong with it. Make sure it is seated firmly and rotated if it needs to be, to be seated properly. What does make sense is that it worked before you changed the filter. If you have the same old filter, put it back in and see if it works. If it does, then you will know for sure it is your new filter that does not work. Which means you need to take it back and have them recheck the numbers and model. If it says that is the correct one then make them give you another one, cause that one don't work. If the clicking sound started with this change then hopefully it will be resolved too.

Its the problem of water inlet valve. It's a dual valve. This valve has two tubes in it. One for water dispenser and one for ice maker chamber. The one side of valve is working, but other side of the valve is not working. The valve is got stuck in one position

I have a Kitchenaid model ksrk25 that the water dispenser does not dispense water and the ice maker that was working has stopped making ice

It is rare that both sides of the water control valve go bad at the same time, but possible. I will need someone to examine the dual water control valve on rear near floor on the back of your refrigerator. Click here for a=> KSRK25FVBL00 Parts Manual Test the dual water control valve with a multi meter set for 120 VAC and place the probes into the wires that attach to the dual water control dispenser side and have someone press the water dispense control in fountain. With the dispense water pressed look for voltage on your multi-meter. Use care not to touch probes or bare wires to prevent getting shocked while testing. If you do not already have Adobe Reader on your computer click here first=> Adobe Reader X (10.1.1) You can also check the water control valve for ice maker by testing the ohm value first by removal of the front cover on ice maker and then placing the test meter probes in to the N and V opening You should get 150 to 350 ohm's of resistance. Also if your ice maker is dry and has no water then fill with tap water and then allow to freeze. If Ice drops into ice bin and then does not refill with water will point to repacing the water valve. If the clip is not below this post click here=> Broken Ice Maker Repair You also can find parts and user manuals by clicking HERE Sometimes the ice maker is the problem with the water control valve not working on the ice maker side. 2198597 Ice Maker Assembly Watching the clip is really a great way of explaining how to test ice maker and replacing water control valve if needed. Ice maker not making ice and water is not flowing

this could be several items so will go down the list in order... 1st you need to make sure you have a good clean filter or that it has been changed recently... sometimes removed and reinstalled will also help... 2nd do you have 120 volts ac current to the water valve when called for water example" someone pushing the water dispenser handle while you test... if you have 120 volts and no water coming you have a bad water valve... if the dispenser is working but the ice maker is not filling with water they do have dual water valves and one side can actually be bad... before shooting the water valve down though if your getting water to the dispenser but not to ice maker make sure the unit is actually calling for water... on most of these ice makers there is a gear motor on the front part of ice maker there will be a white cover over the front of unit remove it and turn gear motor makes sure it is not broke.. is there frozen water in ice maker if so may be the heater on ice maker is bad... if no water again before shooting down water valve make sure the fill tube coming into ice maker is not froze up...if it is froze up most likely you have a weak water valve and needs to be replaced due to not seating properly.... hope this helps hard to diagnose when not sure what all you have already tested or not...

Ice maker doesn't make ice anymore. The water works and dispenser levers on the door work for both ice (use store bought ice dumped into tray) and water. I replaced the filter after it quit making ice. Not...

you've already done the first thing i suggest, and that is to change the water filter. But if you still cant get ice made, you have a problem with either your ice maker or your water valve, or an electrical issue in the ice maker system.

We have a jenn-air jfc2087hrs (french door model) and the water pressure from the internal water dispenser is very low. the line has plenty of pressure.

If your ice maker is making full size cubes then it should one of 2 problems.
The water valve on the bottom back of the machine is a dual valve. One side feeds the ice maker, the other side feeds the water supply.
1. The dual water valve. is going bad. The water side is malfunctioning.
The dual valve must be replaced.
2. Your model should have filters for the water dispenser, and need replaced.
Try changing the filters first.

Ice maker does not work on my Hotpoint sise by side. the water dispenser works, i've replaced the filter, the green light is on, but nothing happens with the icemaker, no running water sound, no ice

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

Ice maker has stopped working. Put in new filter but still no ice. Water dispenser is fine but water will not go into ice maker to make ice. Please advise.

The ice maker has its own valve which is the same part as the water in the door with its own valve as well , replace the dual valve for the fix. It is located where the water line connects.

Ice maker and now water dispenser does not work

Do you get water to the connector at the bottom of the freezer door ? if you do then the water pipe in the door is probably frozen - read new door ! if not then check thw electrical connector at the bottom of the freezer door as they have a habit of corroding.
