Hi aartman

Yes it does have backlamps.

They are soldered to the PCB so you will need a few tools like a soldering iron, philips screwdrivers, solder, and some replacement lamps. Replace the lamps with this type from Farnell electronics. They have a 15000 hr life expectancy and last alot longer in the unit. I have tried many types of lamps over the years, and found these are the best choice if you want them to last.

FOR YOUR SAFETY-BE SURE TO DISCONNECT FROM THE MAINS BEFORE REMOVING THE LID

To get access to the lamps, you need to pull the main PCB out of the chassis to then get access to the bottom side of the printed circuit board where the 2 screws that retain the white lamp reflector assembly. Change both lamps with the type I mentioned,

I am more than happy to talk about this solution with you further. Just ask away. Cheers

regards
robotek

Oh and I should tell you that there are 2 lamps fitted in this unit(for when you go to order them). You can get to a Farnell site in your country here with an order code: SC00347

Does anyone know if these backlights are available anywhere else please? I followed the links provided and used the part numbers but nothing comes up on the Farnell site?
I've owned a no display NAD 5425 for twenty years +, I just pretended it was a "Feature" :) The NAD still works perfectly so I would like to treat it to a repair.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

I've just fixed mine with this strip of 3 LEDs :https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383676185216?...
Take care with the polarity: the negative end, which is marked on its back and has the extra bit on the front, has to go to the lefthand side, looking from the front.

NAD C521 on / off button light

"POWER ON: Press this Green button to switch on the power to the disc player from Standby mode. The LED will change from Amber to Green, and the EFL display will illuminate."

So besides the L.E.D. the unit has another visual indicator that it's turned ON, the display lights up. Is this worth pursuing a fix?

Light doesnt work

hi...
Do you mean the Display?
If so ,it's a backlight issue. Some use little bulbs ( NAD and Yamaha)
Take it to a tech ( Ask your stereo store)

Nad c520 high pitched ringing

Hi, From your description, it sounds as if the noise is coming from the circuit that controls the display backlight. If I recall correctly, the C520 has an EL backlight just like the C521 (which I have one of). On the front of the circuit board, there should be a little yellow trimmer potentiometer that controls the brightness of the display. It may be that the noise will go away if the brightness is turned down some. If  the noise varies as you turn the controller, but doesn't go away completely, the backlight may need servicing.

NAD C521 discs not spinning

The CD player has a sensor that is supposed to detect when a disc is inserted and spin it up etc. yours might be the problem, either it has some loose connections (that you haven't noticed) or it simply misbehaves. Another thing could be the motor itself that somehow 'misses' the spin up signal and needs a 'manual' boost. The best solution in your case is probably to bring it to some lab.
