Acer aspire one d257 - 13404 where is the hardrive located inside and what does it look like? I am trying to see if it is unplugged because I get an error screen saying " no bootable device detected -- insert boot disk and press any key " any idea what that means also? Help please!!

To the right of the Numbers 2 and 4 is a handle formed out of the Side Panel. This formed place is to put your fingers. The Side Panel is pulled towards the Back of the computer, using this handle.

First, there are two Philips head screws to remove from the back of the Side Panel.
One is right above the formed handle.

The other is located towards the bottom. The line from the Number 5 goes right across the top of this screw.

Make SURE computer is unplugged from power, and Anti-Static Precautions are observed BEFORE reaching inside the computer.

either plug in the back of the laptop is shot or you need a new hardrive

Your PC has a 160Gb Serial ATA (SATA) drive.

Any SATA drive should work for ya. 160 Gb is a good sized drive, so IF you have room in the case you may want to just ADD a drive to the PC instead of replace the existing one.

According to the specifications for the PC you should have 2 more SATA connectors.

Any drive will work. It doesn't have to be a particular brand.

- is the BIOS set to boot from the hard drive ?
- have u changed any drive setting in BIOS (sata mode, pata mode ...)
- try to boot with a linux live cd, or with the vista dvd and see if they can see the drive ... if thay can, than most probably a reinstall of the OS would fix the problem, if not , check the BIOS settings, also make sure that the drive is properly fixed in it;s place, if posible test it on another laptop to be sure if it;s causing the probems or not ...

yes that is true its split in half 20 gig is used for the recovory mode one key resets computer just like new it saves reformating and useing disc if not handy
