My sony vaio laptop can turn on and load up till it gets to the welcome screen. but then it freezes at that point. so i cant log onto my profile account or the guests. the mouse will still move on the screen though. a couple of days ago it has been a little slow at loading too.
Boot to safe mode by hitting the F8 key on boot. When in safe mode, go to a dos prompt and type MSCONFIG and hit the enter key.
In there, select DISABLE ALL near the bottom right and click on OK. You will receive a message that the system must be restarted. Restart it. If the system comes up, you will have a prompt that the system is using a modified boot. Just check off the check mark area and continue. You can then enter MSCONFIG and start enabling things until it locks up again and then you will know that, that is the program causing all the problems.
If that doesn't solve the problem, you may need to reload the OS.
Don't worry, hit Alt+Ctrl+Delete all three at the same time to bring up the Task Manager Windows. Then click File->rn-> type in explorer and click OK, the destop will come up. If it happes again for the next time, try to run some registry software to fix some dll, or registry file. VAIO sony is ****. I never buy Sony laptop any more.
Thanks,

This is a little off-topic, but I would advice you to regularly backup the important documents to an external hard-disk for example.
Also, this approach shouldn't normally do any damage to your computer...

thanks for the prompt response. ill try it out today. i just hope nothing gets deleted off my hard drive...so many important documents. i was thinking if it could also be overheating. or maybe that a norton antivirus renewal software was automatically updated to my comp. ??????
Im beginning to believe all of these computers do the same thing...its quite frustrating! My computer is only a few months old!
when I turn my laptop on my mouse freezes up
