My HP vs 19 desktop monitor is on, but the screen is blank. It flashes on for less than a second when I turn the monitor off, and then back on -- but then goes blank. What is the solution?

Make sure you have the correct drivers install for you video card. Also, check to make sure your resolution is not set to high for you video card. To get to resolution; right click on Desktop > click Properties > press Settings Tab, from there you can move the slider to change your screen resolution (try different resolutions until it doesn't shut off anymore).

The monitor you have has bad components on the circuit boards inside.
This is a classic problem with all LCD monitors.
I rebuild them on a daily basis so I recognize the symptoms.
I would suggest finding someone who can do component level repair on the circuit boards inside.
I also suggest not trying to repair yourself as there are many breakable components to them as well as components inside that do not like static electricity discharges.

YOU NEED TO HAVE THE INVERTER BOARD REPLACED.
YOU CAN USUALLY FIN THEM ON E BAY OR YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT IN IF YOU DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE REPLACING IT YOURSELF.

Beautiful screen, lasts about for a few minutes, goes black. Power button still green. If I turn it off, and then back on, it works again for a while. Any ideas?

You can desolder the B+ line to check the power back to on condition. If the power lit on.It is the int cap inside the FBT has shorted.

It may be worth going to the game makers web site and see if there are any patches regarding your make of your graphics card. It may also be the fact that the game resolution does not match the screen resolution, try changing it in the game settings if it's possible for you to do so, as the monitor seems to be struggling with the change of resolution as you start up the game.

Unplug the cable from your PC, if the monitor shows a test image, the monitor is fine and the problem is with your graphic card. If you dont see nothing on-screen after unpluging the cable from the PC, then the monitor in damaged. Send it to repair.
