Singer 7422 has a high pitched whine while sewing. How can I fix this before it becomes a problem.

Re: High pitched noise on computerized machines? UPDATE in new post (posted on 3/4/14 7:59 AM)
I recently bought my first electronic/computerized machines after many years of sewing on mechanicals and am still getting used to the ins and outs of computerized sewing. I first bought a Brother that I returned, then a Janome Magnolia 7330, which I upgraded to a 4120QDC. The Magnolia made a high pitched noise that sounded like little cicadas (just not as loud!), but my dealer (who is also machine mechanic) said that is just "new machine sound" and when I took it in he said he could not hear it (it had lessened by that time too). The 4120 does not make the same sound, but it does make a low-volume high pitched noise when the setting is on some stitches - e.g. straight stitch. When you switch to overcast stitch, the noise goes away. It is not very loud, more like a background noise, and not unlike the noise my laptop makes when I turn it on. I can't remember if the Brother ever made a similar noise. My dealer said this is just new machine noise as well. Am I too sensitive to noise? Is this normal? Does anyone know why it would be there on some stitches and not on others? I've only had my machine for a week, and I absolutely love it - it stitches very well and the stitching is not noisy. I just need to know if this background noise is something to worry about.

High pitched noise while stitching

Stop using the machine, it Needs to be tuned up and adjusted. Have it tuned up by a experienced repair technician.

Overlock problems

it would be a good idea to have the machine checked to see what's causing the squeeking problem and what's causing the pedal to get hot.

Singer 6268 emits a high pitched squeal when turned on. What's the problem?

Find out where the noise is coming from first, could be the nylon belt or a dry moving part

Motor makes noise and slowed down

take the belt off the motor and press the pedal see if it is still running slow, if not then there is a tightness in the machine itself.

My Brother CS-8060/CS-80 is making a high pitched squeaking noise when I try to thread a bobbin. My manual has nothing about that kind of problem. I think it might be something to do with the belt or maybe...

Hi! The first thing I'd do is look for thread caught on the bobbin winding spindle, but below the little platform where the bobbin sits. It's really hard to get at, but if you shine a light from the side, you should be able to bend your head (or tilt the machine back) so that you can see the underside of that platform. When I've gotten thread caught on that spindle, I take my scaple or a craft knife and carefully cut the thread free, then use a set of tweezers to pull it out. You're working in a very cramped area, so be patient and go slowly.

Make sure the lid that uncovers the bobbin winding mechanism is as far back as it will go; the same goes for the spool that holds the thread.

Sometimes I get a a high-pitched squeaking noise (but it's not loud) just sewing. It comes from the handwheel and I don't know why my machine does it. It stops if I push the handwheel in (although the handwheel doesn't seem to be out.)

See if these suggestions help--if not, let me know, and we can try something else.

Happy Sewing!
