Ink Refill for HP Photosmart c7280 not working

HI. I have an HP Photsmart c7280. I bought the refill cartidges that have the automatic reset chip on them. I replaced all the cartidges at the same time, per instructions. All of them work except 1. I have tried 2 other of the refill cartidges in that spot and none of them are working in that spot, but work elsewhere. So I am thinking there is something up with the printer rather than the refillable cartidges.

The error that the printer gives me is that the cartidge is missing or damaged. It will stop telling me that only if I put the original cartidge back in that spot. Any refillable one in that spot still gives an error.

So, what do I do? Is there a way to over ride this error? So far, once it pops up, it won't do anything until I replace the cartridge. Is there something wrong with my printer that it won't register these refillables?

Thank you

Lisa

I know this is an old thread. I recently picked up my parent's old HP Photosmart C7280 printer. Of course, the inks were supposedly clogged after many years of not being in use. After taking care of the clogging issues, I bought refillable HP 02-type ink cartridges for the printer. I did receive the same cartridges are missing or damaged error messages. After wrestling it for two days, I made it work somehow.

This is what I did:

1) I took out all the empty original HP 02 cartridges.

2) Then, I turned off the printer.

3) Turn on the printer and put the empty original HP 02 cartridges in.

4) Turn off the printer again, but open the cartridge bay right before the printer was completely turned off.

6) Then I placed the refillable black cartridge inside. Leave the rest of the empty color cartridges alone.

7) Close the bay and turn on the printer.

8) Then repeat step 4 until you cycled through all the cartridges. When you finished, you won't see the error message again, but the printer will now show the ink levels anymore.

So basically, you just have to leave all the original cartridges and replace only one refillable cartridge at a time. I know it's a tedious job just to refill the ink, but it is what it is.

I hope it helps.

Hi Lisa,

If it responds ok with the old cartridge then the problem is with the cartridges' chip not the printer. Probably the manufactor has a problem with certain cartridge chip (contact them!). I would suggest to use the original at the problematic spot if it works without a problem.

Ive refilled ink cartridge and put it back in printer but the printer is still indicating empty cartridge and wont print. How do I reset the firmware on printer so it accepts cartridge as new?

Often times it is the chip in the cartidge that needs resetting - depending on the brand, there are various tools needed to reset - sometimes needing a new chip. Printer manufactures have gotten stingy with ink and want people to buy genuine new cartidges. The best advice I can give you is try to get to an ink refill shop and see if they can reset the chip in the cartridge.

I just had an ink cartidge refilled but printer still says that there is no in

Hello, unfortunately, most makers of modern printers incorporate a chip into the cartridges so that you cannot refill them....well, saying that, you CAN refill them but they won't work as the chip tells the printer it's empty. Some refill companies make a chip resetter that you can buy, but they will only work on certain makes, and apparently you can't reset original HP cartridges. Do a google search for your printer and include 'chip resetter' Regards, nicam49

We just refill both cartidge at costco. when I load the cartidges I get the cartridge incorrect message. please help

The HP cartridges have a chip on them, you must reset it after recharge using a special gizmo, otherwise the cartridge will be considered defective by the printer and rejected. Go back at Costco and ask them to reset it.

Refill a 564 black cartridge instructions?

Refills are not possible for this cartridge type yet. There is a chip on the cartridge that needs to be reset or replaced for the cartridge to function. Any chips for sale on the internet are technically violating patent law. Any refill kit that tells you to take the chip off your cartridge and place it on their refill is swindling you. Once the chip says the cartridge is empty it WILL NOT print, no matter how much ink is actually left. I would wait until a reputable refiller like Cartridge World or Office Depot offers refills for this cartridge before you try to fill it at home.

My hp 6110 doesn't print colour?

When you refill an HP cartridge there is a chip on some that tells the printer how many pages have been printed. This doesn't get reset when it gets refilled in a majority of the refill places. So you will have to ignore the low ink warning on those cartridges or get them done somewhere else like a Cartridge World. If in fact the ink tank is chipped, then they generally can't be refilled without resetting the chip.
