Its failing to go through the full boot process. Try pressing F8 on boot until the boot option screen comes up and then select safe mode. Follow this though until you are given the option of using system restore instead of safe mode. take that option by clicking on the NO button. Restore the machine to a date some time a few days previous to the fault developing.

If that fails then put in any OS disc and boot from it. select R at the first options screen, follow it through and then select the C drive option. Just hit enter when asked for admin password.

now type chkdsk /r (copy and paste this to be sure). let it run and then reboot and see what happens

My Dell Inspiron 1545 on Windows 7. After a system restore will not start. You switch on, The Dell logo appears, then the screen stays blank except for the cursor arrow which remains and can be moved...

Power drain your computer, remove all the accessories connected on it, including battery and power cord then press the power button for 1 minute.
Connect the power cord then turn on the computer.

This is a possible Operating system corruption and it needs a complete reloading of your operating system or reformat your HDD and install the OS again.

Laptop cursor not registering when pressed When the laptop is turned on,the cursor does not appear and nothing registers when I try to move the cursor around the screen to select something.

Ok on keyboard, press WINDOWS logo see start page comes up. using keypads arrow keys, access the control panel, find mouse, if you are using vista, set classic view. you may get around by tab key and up>down>rigth>left arrow keys.
Install driver again or use update \. come back start and shot down the computer by shotdown arrow, do not use brown button will not shotdown, it is stanby (On vista). Then turn on again see what you see>
If can not, Just use same system and reach out the system tools from accessories>system tools>Make defragmentation.
No result > make system restore. No result see tech.

Dell Lattiude D600 cursor locked in middle of screen - even after we turn on and off - no way to do anything because cursor won't move - not even little blue mouse in the middle of the screen

Try booting up after installing an external USB mouse. This may give you a mouse to install new keyboard drivers.
If the problem is the keyboard/tracking pad, (hardware) installing another keyboard may eliminate the issue.

Computer won't boot Windows Vista. Screen goes black with cursor arrow.

In this case you have to do the PC restore . you can do that in dell machines by shutting down the machine and when it is coming back on just HOLD DOWN THE CTRL ket and the START HITTING f11 key in this case you will lose the data which you have the on the c drive but this issue will get resolved .

Else you can try to restart in the safe mode with networking and then go to the system restore and then select the bold dates in which you have idea you system was working fine . selct the date and then do the system restore . In this case you will not lose the data but you will lose the updates which you have done after that date .

in both the cases system will work .

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

Flipped\upside down screen on my compaq

http://forums.techguy.org/tech-tips-tricks/336002-windows-xp-flipping-screen-upside.html

Windows XP: Flipping the screen upside down and back again

Once, at University, someone had flipped the screens of all the public computers (running on Windows XP) of the English Department upside down. The wallpaper, desktop icons, fonts, mouse-cursor and even the start-up screen...everything was displayed or moved upside down. People could not check out their e-mails or surf or do anything.
To reverse the upside down screen mode, press ctrl, alt and the up arrow (arrows console) at the same time; the screen will probably go blank. Turn off the monitor, turn it on again and the display will be normal again. If you possess a sense of humour or are antisocial, press ctrl, alt and the down arrow simultaneously, turn off the monitor, turn it on again and everyone (excluding the culprit) will be desperate --> upside down! Works for Windows XP Home and Prof.
