I have a Denon AVR-3805 which doesn't support HDMI. I want to replace my DVD player with a BLU-RAY. My current DVD and my Pioneer Elite Plasma are connected to the AVR-3805 using 5.1 surround sound with Component Video cables. Can I connect the BLU-RAY so that it utilzes the HDMI input on the controller for my Pioneer Plasma, bypassing the AVR? If so what would happen to the sound? If I don't use HDMI what will I lose on the BLU-RAY? Thanks ...........
The best possible solution to your problem is :
Connect your blu ray player directly to the HDMI input of you Plasma and watch HD video....
and connect the 5.1/7.1 sound thru the optical or the coaxial link directly to your AVR 3805.
You will not loose anything on the Blu-Ray.
The sound is best processsed by the AVR3805, while the video, which is the real upgrade (BluRay) in terms of resolution of picture would be processed by your plasma.
Connect and Enjoy
Connect Blu Ray HDMI output directly to your Plasma TV, while the audio output via optical or coaxial to the AVR.

Hello, i have a Panasonic Plasma connected to my 3805 Denon via an HDMI cable and component cables from my cable box to the amp. I have audio, but no video. The TV is set to HDMI1 and the cable from TV to amp is plugged into HDMI1 as well. Do I need to play with some settings on the amp in order to get the video on the TV working?
