Make the camera mode auto or turn the flash mode ON. Then click a snap. If the flash not working then its a flash tube cutoff problem. Please visit a repair store and replace the Tube. Cost 5$.

I have a Minolta 5600Hs flash. It's worked great

I would not recommend you fix it yourself since several of the inside componentes are high voltage and dangerous. But, why wont the flash turn on? if the batteries are good, could it be the battery contacts on the battery door and inside the flash? If the batteries have ever corroded (even a little) then that would be the problem. Use a pencil eraser to shine up the contacts until they are bright and shiney clean. Do not use sand paper or anthing vabbrasive as that will cause the contacts to corrod more and the problem will be worse.

Since Minolta quit the camera/flash biz, Ebay is your best bet for a printed copy.
To get a free pdf file, Go to KM global website.
Select Canada, as yer country.
navigate your way to downloads.
Also check the Orphan camera website.
I have a pdf for one, but I am not allowed to give it to you here.

Minolta 5600 flash on Sony A200 camera hot shoe problem

This is what you need:

http://cgi.ebay.com/TTL-Cord-Flash-Bracket-Sony-Alpha-A700-Digital-Camera_W0QQitemZ290258666395QQihZ019QQcategoryZ48515QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

it screws into the mount underneath your camera, connects via a cord to your hotshoe mount, and your flash willl then sit next to your camera mounted on this flash bracket.

Flash compatibility

Sorta, it will flash, but only in manual mode, all the benefits of having a gee whizbang electronic flash are lost jumping from the film to digital cameras, the film cameras metered the flash off the film plain, and quenched it when enough light had hit the film, they couldn't apparently figure out how to do the same thing for the digital sensor, so the flashes behave differently,  you need a D flash like the 3600 or 5600 to get automatic flash with the KM 5d, 7d, or sony A100 cameras... sorry... if it's any consolation, I'm in the same boat. :(
