Screen blank

Sounds like a cap or fuse has blown in the set, you will need to take the back cover of and have a look, check on the power board for any blown caps, you will notice them straight away if one has poped, also check any fuses that may have blown they will also need to be replaced.

I have a 50' Sony Grand Wega red bar on top of screen

Well this is an LCD projection TV and it sounds like one of the polarizer filter has gotten out of place so you are seeing at the top of your screen the unfiltered image of the LCD panel.
Will need to go into a shop to get repaired. Call and get an estimate of repair. Actually shouldn't be too bad of a repair cost.

Bright spots on the screen

It's the Digital convergence board. Sony has lost two class action lawsuits over this issue in the past two years. Contact Sony at 1-877-619-7669 and complain complain complain. If your lucky and you can talk to a supervisor, they can either get you a discount on the part or credit on a new set, or get you the part for free. I have been dealing with this issue with my own clients as well. Hope this helps

Blotchy screen

You'll probably need a new optical engine for your TV. Sony extended the warranty for some of their LCD projections but I think that the warranty extensions have all ended. Try Sony.com for more info.

Image too big for screen

I have the same tv.
On your remote push menu, then go to settings, and then screen. Put the auto wide to on. And keep the picture mode on normal, not the zoom or wide zoom. If its in HD it will fit the screen. If its not in HD it will crop the sides. This worked for me, hope it works out.
