Yes the brake senson worked fine and I changed the brake Pads. Now my dash light will not go out. What is it that I have to do to reset it? There is nothing in the manual about it. I have a 2004 X3 2.5....tnx
My brake pads worn down so the light indicator sensor came on. I looked in the book and states that indicates worn brake pads. I replaced my brake pads but the light is still on.My brake pads worn down so the light indicator sensor came on. I looked in the book and states that indicates worn brake pads. You must check the layout first if the layout is ok then trace from the dash boards connection and you will know what wrong with the dash board lighting system,.after that contact your auto eletrician to re-connect the wires in the dash board.thank you

What dash lights come on? if its the brake or ABS lights that means your brake pads need to be changed, in some brake pads there is a sensor that also has to be replaced if you have gone too far into the rotor.
Check your brake pads for wear. If worn replace. If not check the wires
to the pads. If these wires are broken...the light will illuminate
although the brake pads may be fine
Good luck with it

As the brake pads wear, the brake pad wear sensor contained in the brake pad contacts the brake rotor. This causes the sensor to fail. When a pad wear sensor fails it opens the ground circuit of the pad wear warning light system causing the pad wear warning light to illuminate. Perform normal brake service to correct this condition and be sure to replace the brake pads with pads containing wear sensors. Once the brake pads and wear sensors are replaced, reset the brake pad warning system by turning the ignition switch to the "on" position. As long as continuity to ground exists through all the brake pad wear sensors the system should reset and the pad warning light in the dash will go out. If the pad warning light does not go out, a check of the pad warning circuit for an open circuit condition or poor ground must be performed.
this sounds like the brake pads may have worn down and the sensors have lit the warning light on the dash, check the brake pads and if the thickness of the pad is at about 3mm then a new set of pads and sensor will be required
i have replaced both front/ rear pads, and no matter what the dash light will not go off. I have disconnected both front/rear sensors, and light is still on , any suggestions?
Raise the hood.....find the brake fluid resevoir ( usually up by the windshield/firewall area...drivers side) It will look like a clear or opaque colored plastic oblong container...not much larger than a soap dish, only deeper. Find the "full mark" on the side of vessel, and make sure brake fluid level is at the mark. You can find DOT3 brake fluid in convenience stores, gas stations and even grocery stores. Dont overfill...
check the brake fluid level, if its low the light will be on. Usually when the brake pads wear down the fluid will become low and thats about the time to change the pads. You should be able to add some fluid though and be ok for a bit. If you hear any funny sounds like grinding or squicking (sp) then its time for brakes.
