Sounds like the timer could be getting stuck and not releasing the defrost cycle
SOURCE: freezer only cools to 40 degrees
check to see if there is ice built up on the inside back if there is it may have defrost problems or if part of the back has ice it may be low of freon
SOURCE: I bought a used Kenmore upright freezer, it's been running all the time.
I'm Not a pro, but the comments refer to a refrigerator. I don't think they read your problem from start to finish. I went to RSI in Phoenix, and I would say it is low on refrigerant. I hope it's 134a.
Good Luck
Over the years the freon sloowly leaks out, it might need only an ounce or two but it will fix it in my opinion. I have the same problem with mine.

It sounds as if your compressor it's running. This could be a bad compressor, bad capacitor, bad thermostat. See that there are no fans or defrost, it is one of the other. I would start with checking the capacitor. You can replace it with a Supco 3 in 1. It cost around $30.00. Anything else is going to start costing $100.00 and more. If you need a freezer that big, I would have it fixed unless it ends up being the compressor.

2 months old should still be under warenty.
Check the freezer fan by opening the freezer door and pressing the door switch and listing for the freezer fan sound. If no sound then the fan motor could be bad.
Look at the back wall too see if you have frost build up. If you do then you have a defrost problem.
If thees are not your problem you could have a seal system problem. (( freon leak ))
