Problem changing battery for Conair Thinner Scale TH300

I have the above model scale. The scale was not acting properly, so I decided to change the battery. I have a new battery, but I can't get it to work. What is the proper way to install this battery?

There is no obvious battery compartment that I can find. What looks like one on the back is just a sticker. Maybe I shouldn't have thrown away the little instruction booklet...

  • loriannes Jan 17, 2009

The battery compartment is on the top r of the back of the TH 300 scale  However ,my problem is trying to get the Lithium battery out of the containment center
    any ideas???

  • Anonymous Feb 23, 2009

I was able to remove the back cover for the battery compartment just fine, however, I cannot actually remove the battery because it has a little lip on one side and a little black piece of plastic on the other side. If I try to pry up the battery, I think it will break the little black piece. How do I get that battery out of there?

  • presouz Mar 26, 2009

no no no the batter is stuck it wont come out of my scale either!!

  • Anonymous Apr 30, 2009

believe me, i can't even find the battery cover. there is nothing on the back. no "open" word. not even a model num. the cross section at the top (the bottom of the disply) is solid. there is an oval section under the display but no way to open. is this a throw-away scale? what gives?

My scale is an older model, "can't locate model# in or outside" sticker on back plate is RH697. Scale was purposely setup so that no one can change the battery but a tech. Back plate had no instruct as to where battery is and the 4 small phillips screws were covered with rubber filler. I scraped off the rubber filler and opened it up, inside was a computer board which I took out (6 tiny phillip screws) to get to the battery (it was the expected 3V) the battery was front and back soldered in. That was enough for me, this company is nothing but a bandit forcing you to a tech (est. cost 45-60$) or to make another purchase. True piracy, I'm throwing it out. Make sure when buying anything that runs on batteries that the product offers ease of replacement, I am disgusted with Thinner.

I've got the same scale. Not consumer friendly but the battery is readily replaceable with a small soldering iron and a CR2032 pin tab battery. Ebay, $3.00 for two including shipping and a two week wait from China. Aggravating, but I really like the scale and it's lasted over ten years and with a new battery probably a bunch more.

I had the same problem-- could open the battery compartment but didn't know how to get the battery out! You can't get it out with your fingers. Get a flathead screwdriver-- apply pressure to the battery and then it pops right out. Duh-- I should have tried that first! :) However, when I did try out a brand new battery, the dang scale still didn't work. I wonder if this is just a cruddy product.

Same problem for me. Replaced the battery, work for one week only so i thought it might be defective, got another battery and work for a couple of weeks only!!
very diappointed with the product.. will not buy Conair again.

This method of changing the battery works great for me. I just replaced the old battery with a new one and the scale is working fine now. I hope it continues to work. Thanks for the info about popping the old battery out with a screwdriver!

Ditto. The battery is held in by that little plastic tab which looks like it will break if it you push on it. Just a little pressure from the underside of the battery with the flat tip and the battery flips right out. Since it is under a little pressure it can flip a few inches. Snapping the new battery in was very easy. The scale works great hopefully for another 10 years.

Tried it. Battery popped out all right -- but so did the little tab that was holding it in. Thanks a lot. But my wife said, is there a cover? There was, and when I snapped it on, it held the battery in place and the darned thing worked.

The battery compartment is on the underside, between the display and the foot to its left. Turn the scale over, and the compartment will now be near the foot to your right. It's about 1" x 2" and slightly oval. IIRC, there was a sticker covering it when I bought mine. There's the word "OPEN" and an arrow pointing to your left. Just to make it interesting, move the little latch the OPPOSITE of the way the arrow points to unlatch it! Pull up an you're in. The battery goes in with the positive side up as you're looking at the upside-down scale. It's a CR2032 cell, should be easy to find a Walgreens or Radio Shack.

  • richndenise Dec 03, 2010

I have an older model also. The battery is located under the oval area. There were no words like "open" on it. After prying open the plastic tab you need to remove two screws. The whole bottom plastic piece then needs to be pulled off. The battery compartment has three more screws to remove. I replaced my battery and now the scale no longer works. Only "00.0" shows up. A poor design to replace a battery. I won't be buying a "thinner" scale again.

Change battery easy enough via your "pop out with a screw driver. Put in a new battery and now everyone weighs 150 pounds. Amazing that I weigh the same as my 1st grade son! What a wonderful piece of equipment. The wife is not too happy though since she just gained 31 pounds in one day!

My Thinner has no visible model #. Is foot square glass with 4 black feet. Tried to change battery - impossible. On backside of display found 4 shinny black divits each covered by black plastic concealing 4 small phillips head screws. Inside found green circuit board held downby 6 very small philips screws, 3 on each side. (You need a jewlers set of screwdrivers). Under the circuit board found 3V lithium battery. But it was spot welded into place and could not remove to replace. Really ticks me off that Conair intentionally made a throwaway instrument that owners can not repair. That is unAmerican Most of all I really like the scale.

Conair Thinner Scale TH207. How to change the battery please? I did not see battery compartment.

Question edited for clarity.

This TH207 seems to be an unknown model.

They all have a battery compartment apart from one exception. There is a Taylor Scale that supposedly has a lifetime battery, and is non replaceable.

More model scales just have a small round disc with a screw and take a small CR2032 button battery. Attach a picture of the back of the scale for me.
