Without changing anything on any of the menus, the flash on the camera has stopped working. The display shows the flash is set to the "Forced Off" condition. I have reset the camera to the factory defaults, removed and replaced the battery, checked all the settings to verify none prevent the flash from working. Opened and closed the flash repeatedly, wiggled and tweaked the flash while opening and when open and attempted to use the flash with every position on the selector dial with the same result. Pressing the flash cursor button has no effect. Any ideas?

Hi,
the zoom in the camera is manual, are the lenses moving inside, when you go from 35 to 420 mm?
Have you dropped your camera or has is experienced a shock of some kind? In that case you would need to send it for repairing the lenses, do not attempt to do that on your own.

Jan, I have the same problem on the same camera. Did you get yours fixed?
Testimonial: "Hi Kitsy, EXCELLENT! This was exactly what was wrong with my camera as well. Pretty difficult to spot the little lever that was stuck though. I took some pictures and will try to post them here as well. MANY THANKS for the great tip and super description what to do! Cheers, Jan"

SOURCE: My camera DMC-FX30 won´t use
Hello
The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the
probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.
Use
these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.
Firstly ,
try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.
Try holding the
shutter button while switching on the camera.
Look at the lens ,
and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then
try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).
Try gently
pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may
cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.
Another
way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and
then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to
not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and
down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the
camera is enough to get things going again.
Try hitting your
camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of
your hand.
Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to
replace the camera.
If it is still under warranty I would suggest
you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any
off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about
warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope
the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need
any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you
found this helpful.

Hi pblac11,
This could be a problem with the format of the memory card , or the memory card is not formatted as per the requirements of your camera.
I would give you a way out to try and see if it works , as I have been through this problem myself too.
Using a card reader device , connect your memory card to your computer and make sure it gets detected in your computer.
In case you are using windows xp , vista or windows 7 , you will find the removable drive relevant to your memory card being detected.
Now all you have to do is try and format the card in a mode that is different than the current one.
For e.g if your memory card has been formatted by NTFS file system , then try changing the format to the FAT32 file system.
and if it's FAT32 already , try formatting the card with the NTFS system and then try and insert the card in your camera after it has been formatted successfully.
The above solution has helped me , hope it helps you as well..:)
Your feed back would be appreciated.
