GE Dryer DWSR473GV0WW periodically just hums when turning on switch

Recently, my dryer has stretches where it doesn't start when we turn the Start switch; instead, just hums. Humming sound appears to be coming from 'inside' the dryer, not right at the switch. Have tried cycling from one cycle to another, opening and closing door - nothing. Some time later, we can return to the dryer and try it again - voila! all's working again. Am wondering if I have a dying Start switch?

If it hums when you start it means switch is ok. problem may be the motor capacitor. to check, take off the top and give the drum a push in the normal direction of rotation. if it goes then motor capacitor is faulty - cheap part

Makes a humming noise but doesn't turn

Try this, open the dryer door and hold down the door light switch. Turn on the dryer and press start. When you hear the motor humming, turn the drum clockwise with your hand to see if it will turn. If itruns, you have a bad motor and will need to be replaced. If it doesn't turn, something is jammedinside and you will need to disassemble the unit to find the jam.
Hope this helps.

My dryer wont start. When i turn the button to start it, it hums but wont run.

something is jamming the drum of the dryer from turning... remove the casing and take a closer look. There may also have been something recently dried which may have come out and jammed the dryer drum. Try hand turning the dryer drum to see... it should freely revolve at least a little bit
Good luck with it

My dryer Start Switch will turn on and hum but will not keep the dryer running. Could this be only the start switch and is it simple to change?

Unfortunately it is not the start switch that causes these symptoms. It is the drive motor itself.

The motor is pretty difficult to replace on this unit but if you have a lot of time, patience and mechanical ability you can do it. The cost of a GE dryer motor is about $175.00

Clothes dryer

dryer won't run, but hot air blow and humming when turned on
Belt is off, idler is off or broken. Replace the belt and idler. Make sure it is installed correctly with tension on the belt. It will take care of your problem

When I try and start my ge dbb3300eaoww dryer it buzzes as if it wants to start if I spin it with my hand it will work. I put a new belt on it and it does the same thing.
Motor start switch is bad. This is typically replaceable with out replacing the motor.
Will take care of the problem.

My drum will sometimes stop turning in the middle of a cycle, and the motor just hums. I pause the dryer, open the door, rotate the drum, unplug and plug the electrical, and then it will usually complete the cycle. Does that mean the belt is "occasionally" slipping? How do I check this?
Replace the belt. It has stretched to the point it no longer can carry the load. Should consider replacing the idler at the same time. This will take care of the problem.
