Blower does not work and the vent does not rise

This is a new downdraft unit out of the box. I connected it to the outlet (which does work) and depressed the activation switch. The downdraft makes a hum but does not do anything.

yes you are right..there are switches that should be detected that the unit is in its proper level ans hould stop and turn the fan on.

you may inspect the railing or where the moving part is moving to find limit switches or sliding switches or sensors..it could have been defective with oil or grease and not making contact to transfer the signal to the controller.

I have a Broan 2736 Eclipse downdraft blower system. When I push the button the downdraft rises but then immediately goes back down

Gail was spot on. That worked for me until the unit would go up and/or down on its own. The problem was traced to the double microswitch called the 'Lower Switch Bracket Assembly' ($24. thru Lowes ). To replace these switches is not for the faint of heart as it is deep within the assembly. A good weekend mechanic can look at the exploded parts diagram and see what / where. Found grease residue on- and slightly within- the microswitchs due to Broan not properly design shielding and protecting these critical switches from grease. Did not find any ghosts, however.

My new home already has a hood vent for the range. I have a gas Jenn air downdraft range. I prefer to use the hood vent as the downdraft is not very efficient. Do I have to connect the blower on my range...

The poupose of either is to eliminate any smoke created by the range or grille and move as much of the cooking odors to the outside. I wouldn't use both at the same time, but if the hood is vented to the outside, it would be just fine to use only the hood. Aregular cleaning will be necesssary. The downdraft has limits as to the distance it will efficiently exhaust air. Flex hose should not be used. And excessive bends or vent length, cuts into the efficiency.

Install a Thermador UCV36 cook'n'vent

Hi schmidt_rich,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You took over as owner builder when your builder "took the $ and ran". You are installing kitchen cabs now and discovered the PVC vent pipe (which goes into the foundation and out the side of the house) is in the wrong place for the location of the downdraft unit and integral blower. The vent is actually under the electrical connection panel. You were told initially( 2 yrs ago when you bought the downdraft cook'n'vent) there could be no bends in the exhaust fan route or it would change the effectiveness. Does anyone know if it is ok to put a bend in the connection to the vent? Or do you need to redo your kitchen cabinets?

I can syphathise. I have had to deal with this same problem. I have found that one ell will not degrade the effectiveness enough to notice. If you need more then you may need to adjust cabinets.

Downdraft vent on jenn air cooktop

How do you get the inside area of the vent clean from the grease and oils where the filter is?? I have a rectangular box style downdraft that the vent goes into the floor, I pulled the filter, but the box is to slender to get an arm into to scrub the grease....... does the bottom come off, or is it a sealed unit? How do you get all the brease from the bottom if you cannot reach it?
