Recently bought this scanner as a gift. Tried installing the AdobePhotoshop elements4.0 but it kept cancelling itself saying that a more efficient program was already installed on the computer. Installed the Driver with no problems. Now the scanner won't do anything. When I go through the start menu to the scanner, I get a dialog box telling me that the computer can not communicate with the scanner. When I hit the scan button on the scanner nothing happens. When I click on the scanner icon from my computer, it will attempt to scan and then say it can't because of scanner hardwear error. The lamp light is on, but I have noticed that the scanner does not move out over the slide. In fact, it only moves a couple of millimeters. Any ideas? Whats up with this thing. It's going to learn to fly through the back yard any second now.

If it is loaded and running then that side is OK. It seems to be a firmware breakdown in the scanner. Checkout the makers website

Try updating your scanner driver/software to isolate the problem. If same issue still occurring after uninstalling/reinstall, then source of the problem may be a CCD/lamp failure or some sort of dust, lint, on CCD causing calibration failure.

the scanner assembly is getting blocked somewhere internally due to dust collected in the assebly.or it can be due to any of the wire internally gone loose or cut slightly so this problem.
