I understand that the ice maker in your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS23H7CS, is crushing your ice, but will not dispense the crushed ice. It sounds like the dispenser is possibly jammed. Follow the following steps for a possible resolution:
1)The ice has melted and frozen around the auger due to infrequent use, temperature fluctuations, and/or power outages. Remove the ice container, thaw, and empty the contents. Clean the container, wipe dry, and replace it in the proper position. When new ice is made, dispenser should operate.
2)Ice cubes are jammed between the ice maker and the back of ice container. Remove the ice cubes that are jamming the dispenser.
3)Ice cubes could be frozen together. Use the dispenser often so that cubes do not freeze together.
4)The ice cubes are hollow or smaller than normal. The ice & water filter cartridge could be clogged. Replace the filter cartridge. Dispensing system operates best at 20 - 100 psi water pressure. Well water pressures should fall within this range.
If the above does not work, I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Turn the power back on and try dispensing crushed ice. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully.
What is most likely your problem is the crushed ice solenoid. This solenoid, which is located next to the auger motor behind the ice bucket, is failing to actuate when you request cubed ice. Its "home" setting is crushed, and actuates to allow cubes past the crushing mechanism in the bucket. To be certain its the problem, remove the ice bucket, and tape the door light switch in the closed position. actuate the ice dispenser lever, for both cubed and crushed ice. you will see a square hole next to the rotating fork, when you select cubes, it should open. If it does open, there is something wrong with your ice bucket, perhaps the arm is broken, or the door inside bucket is off its snap in type hinge or broken altogether. If it doesnt open, replace the solenoid
You have a solenoid switch which switches the
dispenser back and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working
or the parts connecting it could be disconnected or broken. You will have to
observe to see if any parts are moving and if any noise is coming from the
solenoid
remove the ice cube tray assy, remove all the ice, save the cubes, wash the assy with warm water dry the assy, be sure the lever in the rear of this ice cube assy is moving and spring loaded, move the lever and it should snap back and return if so you know the unit is ok(the cube assy), now with the assy still out of the freezer close the freezer door and select crushed ice and push the pad where the glass normally hit to activate the ice cubes,if the operates and you here a thump and snap and hum most likely your ok,if not you could have a defective auger motor assy, but if you here all the sounds as decribed oped the freezer door and select cubed ice push actuator on despensor door with the freezer door closed, reopen and install the ice cube assy tray bucket assy, push it in firmley, and try it with some ice in the bucket you should be fine,if not replace auger motor assy..

take out the auger assembly (plastic pan with metal coil in it) and dump out the ice and clean and defrost it. let it dry before returning it to the freezer. sometimes ice will buildup and cause this problem.
There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Viola! Cubes again.
