During spin cycle, burning smell and machine stopped working

When clothing was going into main spin cycle, it locked up and a buring smell happened. Would not drain the remaining water. I turned off & unplugged the machine

Maytag Neptune MAH5500 smelled like burning plastic at the end of the cycle. (The whole basement smelled bad.) The smell seemed to be coming from the plastic part at the top where it latches.

Tub bearings get worse, if they faulty, the machine would be noisy and getting louder. Sudden burning smells usually mean an electrical failure of a component but if this has stopped and the machine is working properly, its possible that something has got caught up in the rim of the tub or gasket area and during spin it has got "burnt" by being dragged around the edge. Have a close look at your clothes that were washed on that day for signs of burning or damage and around the top at leading edges of the tub for signs of melting or damage.

Check to see if your water pump is spinning. It could be seized up and the burning smell could be the belt spinning on the seized pulley. Good luck Friend.

Machine stopped abruptly full of water. smelled like burning.

That could be a Locked Up Clutch Pulley One-Way Roller Clutch bearing my 1st choice Or a tranny lock up if this happened during wash/agitate part of the cycle.

If this happened in Spin Cycle it could be seized Outer Tub bearings.

May need a belt replacement. Belt could have gotten wet and slipped and burned a spot in it. I had one of these and replace a locked up water pump and belt once. I finally got rid of it when the transmission started growling loud it was 32+ years old lady kenmore. see http://www.appliancepartspros.com/ for a diagram.

Burning smell during spin cycle on frigidaire washing machine

Open lid as you would load clothes and hold the inner drum with all the holes in it. Give it a manual turn left, then right. If it spins in both ways the main bearing is gone. This is not a DIY because the new bearing has to be pressed on at a machine shop, or an appliance repair shop.

It could be the lid switch or check you motor leads. Sometimes the high and low motor wire gets loose and burns off. The colors are sometimes yellow, orange, or red.

Whirlpool washer slow to spin

Yes I happens to work a lot with this type of machines. Normally when the spin is too slow the problem rises form a week voltage, motor winding too week for the velocity. I means that the winding in the motor might have gotten burn and weakened the winding to the point where when the motor ask for more voltage to spins the housing the winding heat up. That is why you smell as something burning. The system in this type of machines is not complex but tedious. If everything else work in the machine then it is the motor.
