I have a Coleman Powermate Powerbase 5000 with a B&S 10 hp model 19G412 1180E2. I had it running for about 5 mins then it shut down on it's own. I checked fuel and spark and found no spark. I replaced the spark plug but still no spark. Next step was removing the oil levelsensor wire but still no spark. Next i removed the shroud and removed the wire to the on/off switch but still no luck. Next i removed the ground wire from the coil/module that comes from both the on/off switch and oil sensor but still no spark. At this point i was convinced the coil/module was at fault. I went to our local supplier and purchased coil/module #398811 . Install and gap to .010" and ensured the flywheel and still no spark. So question is why? Any help would be welcome.

Cleaning the carb bowl is not enough make sure you pull out the main jet and clean it out real good. If it starts with starting fluid then it is definitely a fuel problem.
SOURCE: I bought a used coleman powermate 5000 generator,
What brand of engine & horsepower is it?Also about how long was it stored or last time it was run? The reason I ask is if it was stored with gas in it & a fuel stabilizer wasn't added to it,your primary jet is plugged in the carburetor(reason it will only run while choked).

I have an HM100 on a 5500 watt gen with the same problem. This motor calls for a J17 spark plug, but I found using a J19 (hotter) plug solved the problem. I think the J17 doesn't get hot enough for a complete combustion burn so it act like fuel starvation thus resulting in the black sooty and wet plug.
