suggestion would be to go for these repair catalogs. I know this website reliable-store.com that I used to buy them from, and they have online it was very good manual. Go ahead, I bet.
check to make sure the belt hasn't come off. if it's direct drive make sure the shaft is working and moving freely. if all of these check out the motor that turns everything my be stuck, frozen up or just bad all together.
Hold the agitator steady and the very top end will screw off. If very old it will be stuck pretty tight, but do not break it. Then the agitator will lift straight up.
Your agitator may be fine but how is your washer behaving is it trying to perform two acctions at one time like spinning and agitating at one time the tarnmission may be locked up
