MC9090 Stuck Warm Booting

I have an MC9090 that is locked into the warm boot process. I have tried a number of things including Cold boot, Cold boot releasing the trigger as the battery clicks in, CLEAN BOOT AND BLANK which appeared to be successful but the unit failed to move to the WM5.0 window after completion, still warm booting. I read that a cold boot would fix but this has not worked either. My goal is to get this device upgraded to version 6.1 but I need to get into WM first. Any help would be much appreciated.

Here you can find links to both clean boot files for the WM5.0 and WM6.1 OS for the MC9090. If you need the full WM5.0 OS you can download it here. For upgrades to WM6.1 from WM5.0 fill out this form and BCTP will help you out.

SOURCE: hi I use symbol MC9090 HHT

Download the image from Motorolla/Symbol support and put it on an SD card. Put the card in the slot underneath the keyboard. Do a cold boot and hold down the left scan button. Dock the scanner and keep holding the button. It will launch the image installer and take off on its own at which point you let go of the scan button.

909XCLEANBOOT.ZIP
This file is intended for use when a CLEAN BOOT of an MC909X WM 5.0 device is required. Unzip the contents of this device to either the root of an SD Card (and place the SD Card in your device) OR the TEMP folder. Then follow the UPDATE LOADER boot instructions below.

909XCLEANBOOTANDBLANK.ZIP
This file is intended for use when both a blank Application Folder and a CLEAN BOOT of an MC909X WM 5.0 device is required. Unzip the contents of this device to either the root of an SD Card (and place the SD Card in your device) OR the TEMP folder. Then follow the UPDATE LOADER boot instructions below.

There are two methods to perform an Update Loader Boot on MC909X:
Method 1
1. Navigate to the location where the ZIP file was unzipped
2. Tap 'StartUpdLdr.exe'
3. After 20 seconds or so, the device will perform an Update Loader boot which will cause the PKGS.LST file deposited on the device to be processed. Leave the device on A/C power during the Update Loader process

Method 2
1. Press the primary battery release on the mobile computer to partially eject the battery from the mobile
computer.
2. On an MC9090-G, while the battery is partially released, simultaneously press and release the trigger and
the Power button.
3. On an MC-909X-K or MC909X-S, while the battery is partially released, simultaneously press and release
the left scan button and the Power button.
4. Push the battery to fully re-insert it in the mobile computer. One audible click can be heard as the battery is
fully inserted.
5. The mobile computer initializes. During this time press and hold the trigger used on step #2 or step #3 (as appropriate) and place the device on A/C power either by placing it in a cradle or a CAM.
6. The device will invoke an Update Loader boot, which will cause the PKGS.LST file deposited on the device to be processed. Leave the device on A/C power during the Update Loader process.

When the device has completed the process it will return to the Windows Mobile ""Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile-based device" screen. At this point, if you used an SD card, please remove it from the device. If you placed the files in the TEMP folder, they will be automatically erased by the CLEAN BOOT process.

The files can be downloaded from:
https://docs.symbol.com/downloads/909XCLEANERS.zip but this didnt work for me i use another similar ones, probably its because you will need to find the properly version.

Not ABLE to switch on MC9090. tried replacing the battery . Held the power button for 2 mins . nothing is working. Is there any key combination to start the reader ? please help.

I know it may be a little late now since you're question was a couple months ago, but I have had this problem with some 9090's before too where a warm boot (holding the power button down) will not bring them up, but a cold boot always does (unless of course it truly is defective - that's not usually the case though).

To do a cold boot, pop the battery out part of the way until it "catches" (you'll know what I mean if you have an MC9090 and try it). Then hold down the trigger and the power button simultaneously while pushing in the battery all the way. Once the battery has been pushed in, release the power button and the trigger.

This should cause the MC9090 to boot up fine. Make sure you release the trigger after doing the steps above. Sometimes people don't do that, and this causes the MC9090 to go into an infinite warm boot where it just continuously reboots over and over. The only way to get out of it is to cold boot again, but this time release the trigger in time.

My MC9090-G scanner is stuck in boot mode. I've tried a cold boot and warm boot and nothing works.

Actually if it is continuously rebooting, it is usually because someone was holding down the trigger through a cold boot process. That's what puts it into this continuous reboot loop. To get out of it do a cold boot again (pop the battery part of the way out, hold down the power button and trigger simultaneously, and then push the battery back in while the power button and trigger are still down). But as soon as you push in the battery to the point where you hear it click, release the trigger. If you hold it in too long, the unit will start continuously rebooting.

Thanks,
