A loose belt will allow the drum to slip when clothes hit the paddles in the drum. It sometimes sounds like a pair of tennis shoes are in the dryer when it slips and is usually rythymic.
These machines also use drum rollers that can make a racket when they go bad.
the maytag has a bearing made if a cloth material that is at the front of the drum. when this wears down drum is grating off the metal drum support, hence the grinding sound. the bearing is fairly straight forward to replace.
thanks for the question. If your dryer squeeks just a short squeek just as you start it thats not a big problem If the noise is there all the way through the cycle it could be the drum rollers locatedat back wall of dryer ,the drum rides on 2 of these they could be worn if its a short sqeek could be a slightly worn belt . thanks for the question The appliance doc
