I have the same problem. I called Samsung and talked to a tech who thinks it could be the barrings in the "color wheel" are going out and making the noise. He didn't think it was the fan because that doesn't turn on until the tv warms up. After a 30 minute discussion he felt certain that was my problem. I haven't had it repaired yet so I can't be sure. Hope this helps.
P.S. I don't have any problems with the color.
Here is a site for ColorWheel replacement, which is what you need to do if you hear that screeching or fan running noise coming from your TV. Sometimes the wheel just explodes which gives you no picture.
I have found the most common problems with the symptom you have described, to be the SMPS PCB. Sometimes the Y Main will cause the power supply to short out and lower a voltage in that area.
