I had same error and tried the reset fix shown elsewhere on this site. It did not fix the problem.
The problem was mechanical as the cartridge cradle was not returning to the far right hand side (viewed from front of printer). I cleaned and lubricated the whole cartridge slide. Use silicon grease to lubricate the slide. The ink rest also needs to move to the far right so lubricate that slide channel too.
This can all be achieved by removing just the front panel (lugs only) and then the right hand side panel (4 screws and bottom lug)

I have a Pixma MP160. It used to work fine, but now it always displays "E22" or Error 22. I checked the canon website and followed all of the advice there:

Issue: ERROR LED: E, 2, 2
1. Disconnect and reconnect power cord to reset the device
2. Remove Packing Material MP160 / MP180 / MP460
3. Reseat ink cartridge (MP160 / MP180 / MP460)
But none of these get rid of the error. Any other ideas?
