Lodger had been cooking- had a Problem -possibly a spill. Switched cooker off at wall. Cooker is now cleaned. Now all 4 ignition units spark repeatedly as soon as wall switch turned on without turning control knobs If the control knob is turned ring lights correctly but the other ignition units continue to spark Also the ovan and grill do not seem to work at all. Please help as i am hungry and in need of a coffee!
I think you need to replace your cook tops spare parts. It is easily available here in Sydney, Australia.
Problem with hob is probably water ingress in area of ignition unit - will probably cure itself oven is a completely separate unit from hob. problem with it is that you have to re-set the clock - you have it on automatic. after power outage, oven clock always has to be reset
which bit don't work? hob or cooker? (they are completely separate honest. did you try re-setting the clock? to work the hob, you can switch off at mains - it should be wired on a separate circuit from the cooker - and use a match to light hob. using it will help dry it out
use hob for a few days switched off at the wall and see what happens. the other thing which has occurred to me is to ease the hob knobs up slightly - you may have pressed them down when cleaning. (knobs are just a tight push fit)

Still does not work after 6 days...any other ideas
I can only set the hob by switching it on at the wall...then the ingnition sparks start then. So cant leave it on
How long will it take to dry out? I can now use the hob with a match, but will this solve it in the long term.
Thank you for your assistance I appreciate it
I have the same smeg hob, and for several weeks now the ignition on the hobs has not been working - it had been cleaned quite rigorously, so it sounds like this could be why, but it has not fixed itself automatically. Can anyone suggest a solution?
