If you're properly turning captions off and it still comes back on maybe it's a defect in the TV, contact Toshiba customer service in the manual and ask.

HOW TO CLOSE SUBTITLES ON LG 37

Keep in mind if using a box it also likely has closed captions feature.

In both set and or box in the menu find Captions--turn off or to one of the other options except TEXT---most sets use CC1 as default and some also offer captions when sound is muted or not.

Look first on remote for captions, usually someone hits the button by mistake either for the box or the set--you may have to check both units to find it.

There is a large black rectangle in the middle of the screen. It goes away for a second when I press the EXIT button on the remote and for about 4 seconds when I press the RECALL button on the remote. ...

This is a text box. This can be turned off under the closed captioning. There should be a cc button on your remote or the closed captioning features can be accessed from your television's menu. Turn closed captioning completely off to get rid of these text boxes.

Keep in mind that closed captioning can also come from your cable box or satellite receiver as well.

Cannot turn CC off.

Features preferences
Caption service
This allows you to select the Closed Captions service levels of analog
broadcasting to be displayed.
Closed Captioning allows you to read the voice content of television
programs on the TV screen. Designed to help the hearing impaired, this
feature uses on-screen ‘text boxes’ to show dialogue and conversations
while the TV program is in progress. Captions will appear on the screen
during captioned broadcasts.
& Select Captions service.
é Press the cursor right.
“ Select the desired Caption service:
• CC 1, 2, 3 or 4
Dialogue (and descriptions) for the action on the captioned TV program
shows on screen.
Usually CC 1 is the most used. CC 2 may be used for alternate languages
if they are being transmitted.
• T 1, 2, 3 or 4
Often used for channel guide, schedules, bulletin board information for
Closed Captions programs, news, weather informations or stock market
reports.
Not all Caption services are necessarily being used by a TV channel during
the transmission of a Closed Caption program.

Features menu
& Select Features in the TV Settings menu.
é Press the cursor right to enter the Features menu.
“ Select the menu items with the cursor up/down and adjust the settings
with the cursor left/right.
Closed captions
This displays the transmitted CC- or CS-text on the screen according to
your chosen CC or CS service in the Setup, Features preferences menu,
This text can either be permanently displayed (assuming that the
service is available in the broadcast) or only when mute is active.
& Press the cursor right after having selected Closed captions.
é Select On, Off or On during mute.

Closed Caption-disable

I cannot find a permanent solution for this problem. All I can find is to press the cc repeatedly until it says off or mute. I looked in the book.
Sometimes cc will come on during a show. I think it is certain channels (abc) makes it come on certain shows and you will have to cycle the cc button again to make it go off. The Mute setting will make the chosen language come on when you press MUTE.
Spanish comes on mine unless I change to cc1 for English if I want the cc working.

Black Box On Screen

Salutations Cranberries,

The annoying black box is usually a feature of the closed captioning called "Text" You should be able to go in to onscreen menu and select caption options. Unless you need to have the closed captioning on for medical reasons, it maybe best just to turn off all captioning options.

Hope this helps.

Caption keeps coming on without even putting it on

Look in your manual! The menu functions on some of these Insignia TV's are hard to see and use because of their location. Using the remote should be a lot easier, as long as you still have the original that came with the LCDTV.
