1997 pontiac bonneville se

There is a tensioner pulley attached to an arm.
Release the tension on the belt by undoing the pulley arm bolt, the belt will have enough slack to slide off the pulleys.
To put it back on, you find the diagram on the radiator guard or under the hood.

(1999 pontiac grand prix 3100 v6) how do I remove and replace my serpentine belt successfully?

Instructions Things You'll Need
  • 3/8-inch drive breaker bar
  • Metric socket kit
  • New serpentine belt
    • 1

Park the Pontiac in a safe work area and open the hood.

    • 2

Inspect the top of the black plastic cover that surrounds the fan for the serpentine belt routing diagram. This diagram has the instructions for installing the new serpentine belt around the accessory pulleys.

    • 3

Inspect the front of the engine and locate the automatic belt tensioner. The tensioner on the 1999 Pontiac model vehicles is located between the alternator and the crankshaft pulley. The tensioner has a pulley on one end with a bolt head in the center of the pulley. Use the bolt head to rotate the tensioner.

    • 4

Turn the tensioner counterclockwise with the breaker bar and a metric socket. Pull the belt out from under the tensioner pulley with your other hand. Then, slowly let the tensioner retract until it stops.

    • 5

Pull the belt out of the other remaining pulleys. Then, pull the belt out of the engine bay and lay it on the ground.

    • 6

Route the new belt around the crankshaft pulley. Then, route the new belt around the other remaining pullleys by using the serpentine belt routing diagram for instructions.

    • 7

Rotate the tensioner pulley counterclockwise with the breaker bar and socket. Then, slide the new belt under the tensioner pulley. Slowly let the tensioner retract until it stops. The tensioner pulls all of the slack out of the belt and brings the new belt to the proper tension. Remove the breaker bar and socket from the tensioner pulley.

    • 8

Inspect the new belt to ensure that it is seated inside of all the accessory pulleys as directed by the diagram. Then, crank the engine and allow it to run for about 15 seconds. Turn the engine off. Inspect the belt again once more to ensure that
the belt is still around each pulley. Close the hood.

How to change the serpentine belt. a diagraham

Welcome to Fixya

Here's the procedure on how to replace the serpentine belt. I am sorry if cannot provide you the diagram.

1. Open the hood and locate the serpentine belt routing diagram. The diagram is on a sticker originally adhered to the fan shroud or the underside of the hood for easy referral when replacing the belt. If the sticker is no longer on the Pontiac, you'll need to get one either from your local Pontiac dealer, in the Pontiac's specific service manual or online. Or you can draw a diagram of your Pontiac's pulleys and belt, showing how the belt routes around the pulleys.
  • 2 Insert the tip of the belt tensioner tool into the corresponding notch on the serpentine belt tensioner. You can locate the tensioner by looking for a pulley located at the end of an arm. This arm and pulley assembly is the tensioner.
  • 3 Pry the tensioner arm away from the belt face with the tensioner tool. On some Pontiacs you can substitute a large socket wrench, but the risk of damage to the tensioner increases greatly with the socket wrench. The price of a tensioner tool is far less than that of a new tensioner, so avoid the socket wrench and buy the proper tool at your local auto parts store.
  • 4 Push the belt off the tensioner pulley with your free hand and slowly move the tensioner back to its relaxed position. Pull the tool out of the tensioner and set it aside for now.
  • 5 Pull the belt off all the pulleys and lift it up out of the engine well. Depending on the year, make and model of Pontiac you are working on, you made need to access the lower pulleys from below the engine well or through the wheel well to get the belt out.
  • 6 Stretch both belts out to full length to make sure the new belt and old belt are nearly identical in length. The new belt should measure less than an inch shorter than the old one. This is due to some stretching the old belt received during its lifespan.
  • 7 Route the new belt around the pulleys, beginning with the crank pulley and working your way up until the tensioner pulley is the only one left. Make sure to consult the routing diagram frequently during this step. If you route it improperly, you will have to either take it off and start over, replace whatever component this damages from the improper routing, or seek first aid for the injuries you suffer.
  • 8 Plug the tensioner tool back into the tensioner body and lever the tensioner pulley away from the belt path once more. Pull the belt over the tensioner pulley and hold it there with your other hand as you slowly release pressure on the tensioner. Take the tool out when done.

Can i rotate the motor on a 98 pontiac trans sport?

If you mean can you spin the motor over by hand, yes. Just remove the drive belt and put the appropriate size socket and ratcher on the nut on the harmonic balancer pulley and use the ratchet to turn it. If you mean, can you rotate the actual position of the motor under the hood and still have a useable automobile, NO.

How to change belt on a 98 pontiac bonniville

You are asking how to remove the serpentine belt on your 3800 engine ?
First, I would take several pictures so you know how it goes back on.
    1) * You must have a special idle pulley tool. Take you tool and pry the idle pulley enough to remove belt, dispose of old belt.
    2) Now place the new belt on the pulleys just as you see in the pictures you took or look at the diagram on the radiator support.
    3) Pull the idle pulley again with your tool and put on the belt.
The idle pulley will put the tension in the belt.
Please let me know how it went.

No diagram for 3.1 chevy malibu

These instructions are for the 3.1 L engine with serpentine belt. To change the belt, you need to remove the engine mount first. But before you do that, you must support the engine so it won't tilt after you remove the engine mount bolts. You would also need at least one helper. Here's step by step: 1. Use a jack and a long enough wooden block to cover the oil pan. Larger block will distribute the forces better. Don't use only a jack or a small block, it might crack the oil pan. Note: normally, you shouldn't lift engine by the oil pan, you should use an engine hoist, but carefully support with wooden block works. 2. Slowly raise the jack to support the engine. 3. Unscrew (Counter Clock Wise) the 2 bolts and 2 nuts of the engine mount. It's on the passenger side right next to the serpentine belt. 4. Loosen the tensioner bolt, and remove the old belt. You may have to raise the engine a bit to get a big enough gap to slide the belt through. 5. Put in the new belt and route it according to the diagram, you may have to leave it off one of the pulley because the tensioner is so tight. Don't worry, you'll slide it on later. 6. Put tighten the tensioner back on. Make sure the round metal pin goes in the appropriate slot. 7. Here's the hard part, putting the belt entirely on the pulleys. You have to either: a) Put a 3/8" ratchet in to the slot near the tension pulley that says "LIFT" and pull really hard to compress the spring, while putting the belt on the one of the pulley. Unless you are Arnold, you will need help. b) Pull a rope behind the tension pulley arm and pull while pushing with your left arm on the pulley arm to compress the spring; then get another person to hook the belt on one of the pulleys. 8. Put the engine mount back on. 9. Test run the engine to make sure you didn't mess up. Turn on accessories like A/C. If the temperature goes way up, you messed up. The water pump might be spinning the wrong way. Note: If you don't have a good floor jack, you can jack up the car, place a support under the oil pan, then slowly lower the car until the engine is supported. In this case, jack-stands or blocks under the frame are a good idea to avoid lowering too far
