Yes, you need to finalize a disc to play it in a normal DVD player. The clip will need to be in a format the DVD player can understand as well, like an AVI file.

SOURCE: DVD movie onto a CD-RW

first off, your not going to get dvd quality on cd, if ur talking about a standard dvd that u wish to put on cd, dont even bother.

4GB(DVD) to 700MB(CD) ? re-encoding it to that size will look like crap.

enjoy

SOURCE: Sony CD/DVD Player DVP-NS50P not playing my avi files DVD+RW

You need to convert avi files to dvd format before burning, otherwise the player won't recognize them. Google "avi to dvd" and you'll find a number of free or pay programs that will do the conversion for you.

Computer burned DVD will not play on Mintek model MDP-1810 portable DVD player

Do you use a DVD burning program or DVD copy program to convert ISO file to DVD? Normally, if you not, it is just data DVD and not a playable DVD disc for DVD player machine.
You can try to use some programs to copy ISO to DVD such as Leawo Blu-ray Copy or Windows Disc Image Burner. Microsoft has included a default feature of burning ISO files to DVD disc.

When I burn a DVD (R- or R+) on a Sony RDR-GX300 it burns the DVD which plays on that unit only. If I try to play the DVD burned on Sony RDR-GX300 on any other brand or any other Sony DVD player or even on...

On That Type Of DVD Recorder,( RW,R-R+). You Will Have To Finalize The Disk. Finalizing is Necessary When Playing On Any Equipment Other Than This Recorder.Even IF Your Other DVD Equipment IS ( VR ) Format Compatible You Still Need To Finalize The Disk. After Finalizing,You Cannot Edit or Record on The Disk,Make Sure It's In Video Mode.

Discs will not play back on dvd

What DVD's are you using +R/RW -R/RW some formats may not work especially on non-branded media some DVD players wont even play CD-R but will play some CD-RW of the correct brand.

I suggest that you try your finalized DVD in your PC then create an image using ImageBurn then burn the image onto a branded media and try again. Most firmware on DVD burners are very forgiving and will support a wider range of manufacturers and formats.

Hope this helps, you might want to look on your DVD players website for updated firmware you will need a blank CD and create a update disc using your computer.

I have windows vista the dvd-rw that i burn does not play on dvd players

Not all DVD players will play rewritable DVD disks. Check for compatibility. Also, burned DVD's need to be "finalized" and the region code of the burner must match the player. Check your software docs for steps to finalize and setting your region code. If you are in the U.S. your region code is 1.

DVD disk

check to see what format your computer burns on.[ex:dvd-r, dvd-rw,dvd-+r,dvd-+rw]different dvd players play certain dvd formats.the format for burning on your computer is probably different from the dvd players that aren't playing the disc.you also must finalize the burned disc.

Burning dvd data

its telling you that the dvd are not being closed, do you wait until the computer tells you its finished before you eject the disk, most lite on dvd's will eject themselves when done.
