I have an at&t sgh a597 that i want to use on Straight Talk...they give u apn settings to add but the Field names are not the same...where do I find them & which ones do I update EXACTLY. Mine doesn't show all the fields provided by Straight Talk.

Straight talk runs on the Sprint network, same as Boost and Tracphone. Although some phones are the same, some only work on certain networks.
Straight Talk also uses Verizon and AT&T* depending on specific regional locations. * AT&T has teamed up with Straight Talk for their new "Straight Talk Sim Card Service", which states on their website that most AT&T or T-mobile phones can be used on Straight Talk using their Sim Card that you have to purchase plus your plan.

Hello,
first, insert the Sim card into another phone to confirm if the Sim card is actually working or not. If another phone recognizes the Sim card, then you can focus your attention on the phone, knowing fully well that it is the problem.
Now, insert another Sim card distinct from straight talk into the phone. If the other Sim card insert into the phone is not still recognized, then it means your phone is having a Sim seater failure/problem.
The Sim seater is faulty, that's why the phone cannot read the Sim. It might be a failure between the seater and the phone board or there might be some dirt prevent the Sim seater from reading the Sim.
Now insert the Sim into the phone again, fold a small piece of paper, put it on the Sim, then put the phone battery. This will hold the Sim firm to the phone and give it contact. If this doesn't work, clean the Sim seater and try again. If cleaning doesn't work, then the Sim seat needs replacement.
Note that sometime, the phone might need to be flashed to fix the problem.
So have the phone flashed, if that doesn't work, replace the Sim seater.
You will be needing the help of a repairman because of the technicality invovled.
