The laptop lost battery back-up suddenly, when batttery was still in good order. The start-up without the power supply is not possible. With power supply ON, pressing the Power ON button, the laptop first does not do anything. Pressing the button a second time, the "blue" light lights up and the laptop starts. There is not any single message that something is wrong with the battery (100% charged). Suggestions?
If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.
SOURCE: I have an acer aspire 4520 laptop that will not
I'm afraid this sounds like a fairly major hardware failure to me (possibly motherboard) your best bet is to contact Acer and see if there is any help they can provide
SOURCE: ACER 5735Z .... does not start at the 1st press of power button
definately ur power button is faulty bcoz sometimes this happens when some liquid or moisture reaches the digital contacts of the button it is also bcoz of air conditioning environment please try this if u have hair dryer in ur house just switch it on the normal speed and low heat settings and point it towards the round switch on button in the centre this hot air will pass thru the holes and might help in drying the moisture
pls turn off ur notebook b4 doing it
see if it helps and pls dont forgett to rate me FIXYA if it

SOURCE: Battery will not charge/ keep computer on. laptop
Sounds to me like the transformer circuit that enables the batery to charge. If you have bought your machine within the last 12 months it should still be covered by warranty so go back to the supplier. If not covered I wouod still try as it is not beyond reasonable expecations that the machine will operate perfectly in very way for more than 1 year.

Well, it's not a power button problem, since it all starts-up. The problem is that there is not battery back-up, i.e. it won't start without the power lead. In my opinion, it's a contact problem, either on the battery side or on the computer side. I've ordered a new battery to try. If it doesn't work, then it's a computer problem. Actually, this model seems to be prone to contact problems: few months after I bought it, the microphone jack was out of service. I then used the headset with a USB. Once I receive tand try the new battery, I'll update the status. Thanks for your inputs. Much appreciated.
While waiting for the new battery to be delivered, I got a new information. This morning, the power status reads (translated): "97% remaining (operation from network supply, battery not charging). Does it give you more clue about the source of the problem?
New battery has not yet arrived. However, I noticed some further info. Wenn I press the power button the first time, the "blue" light lights up but nothing else happens. When I press it a second time, the computer starts. So it seems that the power button is not faulty. Instead, I believe it is the connection to the battery that is faulty. The battery status still reads the same as yesterday: 97% remaining, working from supply network, battery not charging. I hope that it helps.
Youpiiiiiiiiie! I just collected the new battery from post office, installed it in the laptop, and guess ..... it works !!!! So it was the battery defective although I would have bet anything it wasn't. Until it died, this old 3 year old battery still gave me 4-5 hours. Maybe my comments on the diagnosis of the fault may be useful to somebofd out there. Thanks to all for your comments.
Can't find the right place on FixYa to say that the problem is solved.
