We are using an HDMI cable to connect the TV to U-Verse Cable Service, so there is no spot for another HDMI cable which would run from the Soundbar to the TV. Is this where the S/PDIF cable would come into play? No such cable arrived with the Soundbar, but would that S/PDIF cable solve the connection problem?

I have just purchased a Philips DVD Home Theatre System HTS8100 (Soundbar), HDMI, ambisound, etc. When I play some DVD's though I get the message "wrong region". What does that mean and how do I solve it. Also why do only some DVD's come up with that message.

The 625 is not a high definition receiver and therefore does not support hdmi. You can use RGB or S-video to provide a higher quality picture than the coax output. If you need more options let me know. Thanks for using Fix Ya.
SOURCE: Close captioning on HDMI
The TV will not display closed caption with HDMI input. It must either over-the-air (antenna) or composite input for the TV to manage CC.
To get CC with HDMI from your Comcast DVR, you need to configure the cable box. Instructions can be found here:

If you want CC all of the time, this works well. But since you must power-off the cable box to change the setting, switching CC on and off is a real pain.
Your set-up is similar to mine (Sharp Aquos 46" and Comcast DVR). I have the composite output from the cable box going to a DVD-recorder and on to the TV. Whenever I need CC (usually to catch some mumbled dialog), I just rewind the DVR, and switch the TV input to the composite input. Then I switch back to HDMI to continue watching in HD.

Is the HDMI port 2 work? Try to turn it off and turn it back on. If it is still not working then the HDMI ports have gone bad. You will need to replace the main board.

You need to buy a Bose VS 2, video enhancer. Your cable/sattelite, vcr and aux connect to the VS 2 and the VS2 connects one HDMI cable to the TV. The VS2 then upconverts DVDs played on the lifestyle through the VS2/HDMI.
