Can't find a front screen for Sony projection tv model # KP61565

The screen looks like an insert that evenly distributes the colors of the projection lens across the entire picture. We were moving it and ti blew out and cracked on the highway. If you know where to find this part and the name of the part I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Blue and green color outlines objects on screen

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Screen turns red then shuts off

Sounds like a bad red projection tube, disconnect red tube socket and try again if tv stays on reconnect tube soket and adjust screen controls on front of tv under the front panel which you will have to remove to do any of this. There are six adjustment controls 3 are for focus for each color and 3 screen controls for each color. Look close at the black plastic control module should be labled R G B for focus and R G B for screens. Good Luck!

The screen looks faded. The colors are right, but

take off the front of the set, and clean the lens as well as the mirrors inside the tv set

The screen is redish in color and the sound doesn't work!

This link has the instructions on how to fix this problem and other similar problems. You
have nothing to lose, so I recommend that you try it.

This works with the two other colors, blue and green also. Not all models of Sony Projection
TVs have the red, green, and blue pots in the same order as the picture that is listed on
this link, so you may want to google search for your model's service manual. The service
manual can also help you be able to remove the cover for your particular model of TV. I was
able to find the service manual for my model, and sure enough, the order of the pots are
reversed on mine, so I would have been adjusting the wrong color. Read all of the comments
on this link too, because you can find other helpful tips and may even find someone with the
same model of TV as you that gives more specific instructions for your model.
You may also find your model's service manual here:

I hope this helps you!
Fare well. :)

P.S. You can also clean the mirrors and dry dust while you're in there which can help with blurriness and focus.

Sony projection tv model kp53v80

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.
