How do I turn on video? Choose options from where?

It depends on the device or platform you are using to access videos. Some general options to turn on video include: On a computer: If you are watching a video on a website, such as YouTube or Vimeo, click the play button on the video player. If you are using a video chat or conferencing software, such as Zoom or Skype, click the video camera icon to enable your webcam. On a smartphone or tablet: If you are watching a video on a mobile app, such as YouTube or Netflix, tap the play button on the video player. If you are using a video chat or conferencing app, such as FaceTime or WhatsApp, tap the video camera icon to enable your camera. On a television: If you are watching a video on a streaming device, such as a Roku or Amazon Fire TV, select the video you want to watch and press play on your remote control. If you are using a video game console, such as a PlayStation or Xbox, navigate to the video app and select the video you want to watch. It is also important to check if your device or platform has a setting to turn on the video, such as in settings of the app or device.

After plugging the hdmi cable, we have the sound but no video

Some ideas:
  • Make sure the correct input is selected for your display device.
  • You may need to change the video out setting on your video source device (Blu Ray player, cable box, etc) to turn on the HDMI output port. See the video source's manual.
  • Devices connected to HDMI are sometimes picky about the order they turn on. Try turning off the video source and video device, then turn on the video source, wait a few seconds, then turn on the display. If that doesn't work, try reversing the order that they are turned on. If this is the problem, you can buy a universal remote, like the Harmony, that will start devices in a specified order.

I was using my dvd players component outs for a year but my hi def tv died so when I hooked up my old tv to the single video out I can't get any picture out of it. I think I need to get into dvd player set...

If its an old Sony dvd player then check Progressive Scan button at rear or some may have it on front to turn off to get composite video output (yellow video out)
And if it does not have any manual switch for progressive scan then turn off dvd player by pressing power button on its remote control, press 3, 6, 9 on dvd remote and press power to turn dvd player On.
That will turn off / disable progressive scan mode and you will get video output from yellow video out jack.

My monitor keeps giving me a no signal message after i turn on my computer

  1. make sure that the video cable is properly connected between the monitor and computer
  2. change the video cable
  3. do a monitor selftest
  • turn off the monitor
  • disconnect it from the power outlet
  • disconnect it from the computer
  • turn on the monitor without the video cable
if you see the monitor information (a box with RGB white colors, the monitor is working)

  • problem might be the cable, video input port of the monitor or the video output port of the computer

CANON SD1000 can't TURN vertical downloaded video into horizontal

If you have windows movie maker (its part of the default installation of windows XP) you can use the rotate filter in the video effects tools.
Import your video into movie maker and select "Video Effects" under tools.  Scroll through the various effects until you find the "rotate 90".  Apply the effect and save the video.
I hope this helps!

No display (black) - power light is amber color

The video signal is not reaching your monitor, check the pins on the connector from the monitor to the computer, then check the video card:

Turn off your computer, unplg the power, and then take out the video card. Wait 5 minutes and then put the card back into the computer and turn it on. For onboard video; turn off the computer, unplug the power, then hold down the power button on the front for 5-10 seconds, then plug back in and turn on.

Make sure the video card is snug in the AGP/PCI slot. If this is built-in video, try borrowing a video card from another computer and install it in this one. If the borrowed card works, then replace you card. If video is built in, then you can disble the onboard video and use the new card without having to replace your motherboard.

Noise during video recording

Turn off Continuous AF (auto focus) to prevent recording camera noise during video capture. When you turn off Continuous AF, you may notice a narrower area of focus or depth of field, especially if you zoomed to a telephoto position before recording. Turn the Mode dial to Video, then press the Menu button. Highlight the Continuous AF menu, then press the OK button. Highlight Off, then press the OK button. (On is the default.) Press the Menu button to turn off the menu screen. This setting remains until you change it, change the Mode dial, or turn off the camera.
